Hello Brian, hey guitar fellows,
Please find herewith the link to my impro on this marvelous backing track
I applied the C minor scale, and mixed it up with some phrygian and major scale fragments…and I tried to keep up the theme of my solo throughout the whole track.
I didn’t know how to upload just the audio recording, so I created a video clip. Obviously, the best thing to do is just to listen to the music…I hope you enjoy it and am looking forward to your comments.
This is my first participation in a challenge of this type, since I discovered this forum only recently… Great idea and of course a good challenge…

Well this is a bloody good start. When you went into Phrygian it sounded very eastern Mediterranean, Middle Eastern type music. I thought that it was very clever and enjoyed it. Welcome to the forum challenge!

Really cool, reminds me a late 60’s San Fransisco scene music.

Very cool Jay, kind of like a mix of 60s psychedelic rock and Clint Eastwood movie tunes (in a very good way). You will make Sam Andrew proud! Very creative and nicely done. Hide

There was some good playing in there. Well paced and lots of nice variations. Very cool composition. Don’t hear much phrygian mode! (Phrygian sounds like something out of one those old Conan The Barbarian movies.) I enjoyed your work on this jam track.

Really fine submission for your first challenge Jay. Liked how you smoothly slipped in the modal changes. Very cool, it always sounds like a car crash when I try to do it!

Hey man, the longer that piece went on, the better it sounded. That was very impressive! Love the high quality tone and clean riffs. Excellent!!

Hey Richard,
thanks for your reply!
I definitely wanted to construct this solo (mainly 3 sections) and change it a bit at the end, but I always wanted to keep the the theme until the end….

Memories awaken. Definitely the end of the 1960s. Nice video and played well.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Jay,
I like how your riffs and licks bring the chords together. Great job on the music and video. -

Hi Jay, this was great, I love the vibe of it 🙂
The video production was top-notch, too. In fact, I think this is the best way to showcase music here. The only thing I would do differently is to simply copy and paste the link to your video on its own separate line. If you do so, we can watch it here on the forum instead of being redirected to Youtube.
Thanks for sharing and welcome to the challenges, Jay.

Hi Lola,
Thanks for your feedback and the hint concerning the video submission. I will try this next time…
Your tribute video was excellent, too. What kind of video software app did you use?-

Thanks, Jay. I use iMovie for all my videos.

Thanks for your feedback! I really appreciate it. There’s still a long way ahead on this journey… But it inspires me to continue…to get even more comfortable… I also must admit that I am Active Melody member for a while now. It really takes time to understand the secrets behind chord progressions, shapes, sweet notes and rhythm… I’m looking forward to the next AM challenge…!

Great job, Jay. Very interesting composition. I think I mess around with phrygian about once every two years, but you’ve done a great job of applying it to this jamtrack. Glad you figured out how to upload stuff to Youtube. A couple of hints: If you upload as Public instead of Unlisted, then members can watch/listen to it from within the forum web page, rather than being re-directed to Youtube. If you are worried about trolls commenting on your video, you can just turn off comments. However I’ve never had a single negative comment in the 6 years since I’ve been posting videos. Also, if you put the link on a separate line with a space above and below it in your post, then the thumbnail will show up in your post.

Great production, Jay! I really like your sound and the variation in your licks, you did so great not to stay in the minor pentatonic scale, like I use to do! Looking forward to your next posts.
Best regards,
