Hi all, I hope you’re staying safe, following all the guidelines. I’m finding that difficult but I know it needs to be done. I’ve been staying well. I don’t think I know anyone personally who’s sick. I do know people who know someone who’s sick, which wasn’t so a week ago. I fear the further spread; if I were betting on it, I’d put money on hitting the peak in NYC around April 16 (based on a chart I saw).
I’m working my way through the consolidation. I foresee finishing it up sometime tomorrow, when I’ll post them all at once. I hope that sounds good. I’m doing my day job from home, so when I receive work there, I drop everything (hopefully remembering to save).
I made a recording and put it on my SoundCloud page. It has many techniques and licks I picked up here, but it’s pretty rough-sounding and a call started coming in at around one minute; I don’t consider it a submission for the Challenge, but I will be working on developing it.
What follows is COVID-19 info I’m using for emails to friends and in social media, please feel free to share it.
If you’re concerned about C-19, this is the best practical info I’ve seen. It’s a mostly reassuring, factual 48-minute video by Dr. David Price of Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City with information about how to protect yourself and others, and what to do if you do get sick with COVID-19 (short story: the only time to go to the hospital is if you’re having trouble breathing). Take care, stay well!

nice playing, Don. Not sure why you don’t want to post it as a Challenge contribution. You could still work on it later. Had me smiling though, when the phone ring came in at 1:00. sounds like an Ocean liner taking Course at your house and if I am not mistaken, you started playing a bit faster on it.
Thanks for the doc’s advice!

A pretty percussive recording.
In my opinion, it would have been worth
posting this for the Challenge.
Anyway, next month, next opportunity 😉Blue

I have a great idea Don. Find out what key your phone rings in and then only post challenges in that key. If the phone rings you can make out it’s a call and response type song.

Hey Don, it looks to me like you are too much of a perfectionist, and too self-critical. That was some fine picking there, and all you need to do is call it a challenge response. Maybe you should just record some of your playing while we are in lockdown and keep the links on hand for future monthly challenges.

Hi Don,
Your playing here was one of the finest on this site so I say we include that in the challenges. That would give us a total of 77 participants this month and an absolute record! (it’s gotta be, right?) Brian already commented on it (put a stamp on it!), so now you have no choice but to include it 😉And thanks for the COVID-19 video as well, I’m gonna listen to it later.

Good to hear you’re well, Don. Have been wondering how you’re faring, given the situation in NYC. Enjoyed your playing, you have your own sound and the Guild Savoy always sounds good. Stay well mate.

That was a cool blues; unmistakably our Don!
I took a few minutes for the video and will listen to it later in peace. Thank you for that and stay healthy!Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

The ‘F Thing’ is cool Don! Loved how you kept your focus even when the phone rang. Nice job. Be careful in the big city.

Thank you my friends and teachers, thank you Kevin, Dieter, Blue, Phil, Brian, Bryce, Sunjamr Steve, JoLa, Scott, Sunburst John, Rick, John B, Wilfried and James, thanks to all of you for listening, for being generous with your comments! I appreciate the confidence you pass along to me. The phone call interrupting me was the final thing that kept me from considering it. I did many takes on that song (I threw many away without counting them as soon as I stopped playing), I can’t say exactly why, but I think that was the best one, and I think I’ll have a better one soon.
I bought an unusual guitar from a friend who needed money for a big move (now the trip is delayed indefinitely). It’s a reddish Japanese=made 1966 Teisco single-pickup electric with the speaker right in the body. I like the sound when I get up in the higher strings and frets—but down on the low ones it sounds like a grumpy cement mixer. You’ll hear it pretty soon.
The second song on here, “You Upset Me Baby,” was a little more than an inspiration—it was the source of the riff and the energy. Enjoy this record!
