First, I want to thank Larry (sciencefiction) for his general advice about a Telecaster.
I was very surprised, which variants are offered there. Where should I start?
I finally decided on the classic version and ordered it today.Review from the showroom:
Sound, appearance and playability are surprisingly good and need not hide in my opinion.
The pickguard of the showroom guitar was very scratched and testifies to a soft surface.
With the bridge, I find it not optimal that the setting of intonation always two strings sit on a rider.
Therefore, I decided to change the bridge and
ordered the Klusion HW 40C.
I see two advantages in it:
First, each string can be adjusted separately and
secondly, the bridge does not have a side-raised sheet; that was a bit more pleasant for me when playing and dampening the strings.
This bridge is very massive and could have a positive effect on sustain; it remains to be seen. Also I was allowed to try a bridge cover.
This definitely has a sound influence. The electromagnetic influence on the bridge pickup slightly dampens the sharp highs in the sound. I did not decide, because with a cover of the bridge, the strings can not be damped. And, should the heights be too sharp for me, I increase the distance between pickup strings. I think so.Now for the sound:
This Telecaster is supposed to be modeled on the legendary 50s models and makes in front of this ulterior motive, in my view, a good figure.
Sound description:
The guitar sounds very fresh, transparent and differentiated to me; in short, (for me) really good.
Very good for me was that I could play in the showroom with a Mesa Boogie. So I had a perfect comparison.
The neck Pickup produces a nice, smooth sound and the
Bridge Pickup delivers twang – not too much for me and not too little, especially in the middle position (both together) of the switch. The Modern-C neck is comfortable in my hand.
Conclusion:
For the incredible price, the features, processing, overall look and sound of this guitar are amazing. At least I did not expect it that way.Maybe I have everything on the weekend.

Classic Vibes are fantastic guitars and hold their own against the alternate Fenders.
Happy New guitar day …..Billy..

Hi Wilfried,
I’m glad you have finally decided on which Tele would best suit your needs. I’m in much the same boat, wanting to buy a Tele but torn between Standard, Player Series, American Specials etc etc …..the list goes on.
A pal of mine has loaned me his 50th Anniversary Strat and boy, what a guitar but it’s extremely heavy. I’d need a 12 month subscription to the Gym to play that one.
So my search goes on and I’d be keen to hear your new Classic Vibe as soon as you’ve got it under control.Richard

The Tele enthusiasts are sharply divided on the saddles. Some maintain that the two string per piece has a better, more authentic sound. Others say there is no difference and the superior intonation of six separate pieces is crucial. My PRS Vela has saddles like the vintage tele, but there is no real intonation problem. If I get a Tele, however, I would get the more modern bridge, as you did. More important, I think is the saddle material – brass or steel. I would get brass.
The Classic Vibe is on my short list of possibilities. It will either be that, and then I will thoroughly modify it, or a Nashville, or I will just buy all the parts and build it.

Congrats Wilfried. Beautiful guitar.
I actually had two of these but for reasons still unknown to me, guitars seem to fly in and out of my arsenal like an airport…except for my MIM Tele. That’s a keeper.
However, you will be extremely happy, with both quality and playability. They really are everything the reviews say they are.

Thanks for your assessment. Yes, brass is better, I think.

Hey Ivan, I think so too; she was pleasant to play.
I currently have guitars that I do not want to give back. An airport without movement, LOL.Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Sure, I’ll have to take a track with country influence. I decide that when I get the good piece.

Very nice, Wilfried. And to all other potential Tele buyers out there: If you are thinking of getting one with the new much touted Shawbucker pickups (like I recently did), be aware that the Shawbuckers are “microphonic” pickups. They don’t mention that in the specifications. There is no actual microphone involved: By “microphonic”, it means that they are magnetic pickups, like all other electric guitar pickups, but the core is not filled with wax to deaden unwanted vibration in the pickup case. So if you accidentally touch anywhere on the pickup with a pick or your fingernail (which I seem to do all the time), it gives out a loud pop sound, apparently caused by the vibration of the pickup case relative to the magnets themselves. In a user forum where owners were complaining about this, Fender commented that they used this design on purpose, because they thought it sounded slightly better. I really hate this feature, so I’ve been researching on how to wax a pickup. Or I may just buy some Fender classic humbuckers and replace them.

Thanks for the note Steve! I have not taken care of it yet. But I did not know that either. The pickup’s I will try something first, if they like me, they stay. If not, I’m going to search. I’ll come back to your experience with it.

Congrats to your (upcoming) NGD, Wilfried! I am looking forward to hearing it and seeing you play with it. Could you also comment on the neck? I know that a Tele is not a Tele without a slim neck, but I have difficulties playing with its narrow spaces between the strings. Are you experiencing any difficulties? And if yes, how do you deal with it? Thanks!
There is still some open space in my airport and a Tele is on the short-list to fill it (right after I fill another open space for an acoustic guitar). So therefore also many thanks to you and all other Tele-shoppers & owners who provide their reviews. I get the feeling there are more Tele’s out there than for any other brand.

Kevin, that feeling is of course subjective. When I picked up the guitar (TC), the frets were not distracting in the distance. I have to say, it was almost used to me. You know I’m switching between Alvarez, Martin, Duesenberg and DÀngelico. I’m fine with that.
What was unusual for me was the painted surface of the fingerboard. But I did not find that uncomfortable either.
It’s a different feeling; not more. All in all, the guitar was good in my hand and I did not have to get used to it. Honestly, I’ve long wanted a bright, lacquered fretboard; without knowing if I could handle it.

Thanks for the answer, Wilfried. I like the lacquered fretboards, too, but find them sticky when I play. With the fretboard width that’s interesting. I am checking out a few acoustic guitars at the moment and one I like (from description only) has a 43mm neck, another which I would prefer 44,4 mm. I tried the latter and loved the neck, but that guitar is twice the price. Now I wonder if i could also get used to the slimmer neck.

Two things Kevin.
The neck width is really an issue. I would go to a shop. Is not session near you? Or order and maybe send back.
If you say “sticky”. I immediately put an oil on the strings in the showroom. But I attributed it to the strings. They were really miserable; very dull. Then they were playable; therefore, I do not return it to the fingerboard. I hope I’m not wrong. I’m going to string Elixir strings anyway.

Wilfried,
Congrats! I have the regular Squier Affinity Tele ( I think the same as Larry’s ) and love it. The Squier guitars are excellent value for the money and sound great.
Look forward to hearing yours!Tim

Hey Tim, that sounds really good. Yes, the TC has something special in the sound – twang.
What I really like is the neck pickup. Clean, the TC has a wonderful sound. Okay, it’s subjective; I like the sound and would be happy if it came tomorrow.
