I’ve been looking at the electric traveler guitars on Sweetwater.com thinking it might be a nice addition for business trips and a second electric around the house for impromptu lessons and jamming.

Has anyone had any experience with these?

My main guitars are an ES-339 and a 67 Hummingbird

          Hello Tom,

I have owned two electric Traveler guitars. My first was the Speedster (which I sold to a friend) My current one is the EG-2 (Strat type)

Overall I am happy with it. One thing I like is the full length fretboard. Many “travel” guitars don’t have the full length fretboard. I have traveled with mine to Hawaii a few times an have always stowed it in the overhead bin with not problems. The gig bag is pretty decent and well padded. I also take along a Korg PX-5 Multi Effects processor. It is small and has many functions including amp simulation.

Overall I have been happy with mine. (here is a picture of mine, on the left next to an Ibanez)

I also sent you a Private Message.

I’ve never owned a proper travel guitar, but I take my non-electric Taylor Baby often when I travel. After playing my Strat most the time, I view it as a chance to brush up on my acoustic fingerpicking repertoire.

Apologies for not responding! Thought I should update this in case others are interested in travel/practice guitars.

My wife purchased a Travel Guitar for me for Christmas 2018. I’ve been hauling it around the country and I’m really happy with it. For an inexpensive electric “practice” guitar it has very good action. I run it through my iPad and an external speaker and it sounds like a real kit. I just carribeaner it to my laptop backpack and it doesn’t add to my carryon count. Generates interest from time to time as I convince folks it’s not a fly rod or automatic – one of the stewardesses tried it out on one flight.

I’ve been Taking this on the road with me since my wife gave me the Travel Guitar for Christmas. Needless to say I travel quite frequently and this has worked out well. I use the IRIG HD 2 to interface my pick-up to the IPAD. Then I’m just using either the AmpTube or AmpKit (freeware) to adjust my output settings. I can either use headphones or the small speaker ($20 from Fry’s Electronics). I’m using the aux output here. I’m surprised how well it sounds. The Travel guitar was a couple hundred. Actually plays very well. Full size neck, slides well under the airplane seat in front of me. I use a soft case, and just caribeaner it to my backpack. They never harass me about it being a third carry-on.

I figure you should take your hobby with you.

Ah, the pick … I was leaving the Sky Club at LAX and I saw this guy with a cool hat and a full size guitar. I stopped and commented something about the coolness of the full guitar and asked if he’d ever seen one like this. He laughed and said you could also use it like an axe! I said yep. I asked him to give it a try and he ripped off this cool R&B rhythm up the neck and liked the action. We joked about the geekiness of it (tuner keys in the body). But he liked it as well. I gave him my card and he gave me a pick. H said his name was Amir and he’d write a song about me. Yeah, I can hear it…Old geek with guitar! Well, the cool hat and the riffs should have been enough. I checked out the pick later and found out it was Amir (lead guitar from Kool and the gang!).

The guitar and music is fun – so are the people you get to meet some time.

                Fun!
