Good day folks
I started playing guitar about 10 years ago, played a bit in church and joined a youth band. Really enjoyed playing. Unfortunately life happened and I put my guitar down, haven’t played for about 4 years.
I’ve started playing again, but the sheer amount of lessons on the internet is just too overwhelming. I’d like to play electric blues and some rock.
Would appreciate some input on where to start.

Welcome JJ. Try this: Go to the Weekly Lessons page, and look at the lesson categories on the left side of the page. Pick one that matches your interests, then start listening to the demos of each lesson until you find one that lights your fire. Considering your background, you should be well able to just jump straight into learning any lesson that sounds good to you. Then when you’ve learned that one, just pick another one and learn it. The goal is not to see how many lessons you can retain in your memory (although you should try to retain maybe 10 or so in your repertoire). It is to begin to build a lick library and a technique library so that you can reach the point where you are able to just jam along with anyone anywhere. In other words, the goal is improv.

Hello JJ M Steve chimed in and gave you a good direction. Welcome to the site and forum . Glad to have you aboard.
Playing music on the guitar is like sculpturing your soul with musical notes. 🙂 6stringer pete
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6 stringer Pete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Greetings JJ and welcome to a great bunch and as my tip, being you asked that question , I’d say start from the beginning ,, the blues coarse and micros can get you rolling fast..as for experienced players that really depends on how well you are experienced and so that too,, answer would be from the beginners coarses where most who ask should be best to start as a premium member here

Hello JJ, welcome to AM. Only failing is that there really is no actual start point, there is the beginners course and the blues lead course but nothing that says “the lessons start here”, so just jump in anywhere you want.
