Check out this article, but read the comments. Interesting stuff.

when you sing from the heart, it requires only a guitar. M. Shihab Uddin

Playing music on the guitar is like sculpturing your soul with musical notes. ๐Ÿ™‚ 6 stringerPete

The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . ๐Ÿ™‚ 6stringerPete

It really is all about โ€melodyโ€. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. ๐Ÿ™‚ Pete

      Pete

I think that articles of this nature would fall under Discuss Anything or Discuss Your Gear. We tried having Sticky Notes for different topics and it caused a lot of clutter so I think that we have to be cautious to not overload the forum.

On the positive side of your question, as long as its not a conflict with what Brian is doing with Active Melody, I think it should be posted. The platform mentioned in the article that you posted helps people to learn songs that they are interested so it can build on what we learn from Brian’s lessons. Apps like this need to posted in case some on the forum could benefit from them

Thank you, Keith. I agree with you. Although one has to pay for it, Brian’s not currently into teaching copyright songs and this is what the app is for to the best of my knowledge.

After about 2 years as an AM member, I found that I had learned enough that I could just listen to the original song I was interested in, then work out how to play it myself. No app needed. I think this is more for guitar strummers who are at the “what chords are they playing?” stage.

There’s a few way of looking at this if the Fender and other apps get more people sticking to playing guitar then there are more students about who might be interested in Brian’s site. Then again Brian might not like this stuff on the site.
I use some apps for scales and chords and have one with a game for learning the fret board but not interested in Fender app also I have read reviews about other teaching apps that were a pain with advertisements and crashing.

Its an update on Fenders, “Play” app and website they started a year or so back. Its aimed at the new/young and inexperienced. No point in having an instrument without having the tools to learn how to play it, But like one commented, “Hendrix hasn’t bought a guitar since the 60’s”, kids like modern music.

Yes Billy a lot of kids nowadays aren’t into guitar like they used to be when Hendrix was about but
Fender noticed that 90% of people who were interested and had bought guitars were giving up and introduced Fender Play which now has about 117,000 subscribers you also get 10% off gear. Latest Fender app is Songs and although these apps are more geared towards begginers at present Fender could take it further if it’s paying. Brian does not cover copyright material and can keep costs down plus s lot of his lessons are good but a lot of members are begginer to intermediate here so I would say the apps are competition to him as Fender Play has Paths that include blues, country, folk, rock and pop
