Quote:Hey Ponygirl – a lot of people get to the point your at and get “stuck”. You’ve got the skill to now play the chords you want to play and the skill to be able to pick out a melody.. but you’re having a hard time coming up with something new to do with those 2. I’m assuming you’re looking to be able to play by yourself without any accompaniment (similar to Chet Atkins style)? If that’s the case and you feel comfortable enough with using your right hand to pick out the notes, the first thing you’ll want to do is be able to play the melody for the song you’re trying to learn (just single notes)… then determine the bass line. The bass line is played on the bottom 2 strings (A and E string). In the beginning it’s easier to just play a single base note over and over again, but as you get more comfortable, try bouncing the base between the 5th and 6th strings – it’s a bit like patting your head and rubbing your tummy in the beginning but if you practice you’ll be able to pull it off. Lastly try to work in a harmony to the melody if possible (usually on the 3rd or 4th string).
Boy, this is hard to describe in text – should I do a video on this? Would there be any other interest in this type of video
Yay
