Ok everybody here I go…….
I have noticed in a few guitar mags about an attachment called a Vibramate. A Vibramate is a custom made item to accept a Bigsby Tailpiece. They make these to fit many guitars. For Gibson and other guitars its a piece of cake to install. But on a Tele type body its not as easy.Heres the lowdown!!!
On an American Standard Tele or the made in Mexico one like mine you have a 4 screw tail piece with a six saddle bridge. The vibramate is a conversion to an ash tray 3 saddle bridge like the older Tele bridges!!! The new Vibramate is sold separate from the bridge. You can get brass or steel.
When looking at the new “ash tray” , there are two straps that are built into the ash tray. These straps have four bolts on them to fit a Bigsby B5 Vibrato to it. The Bigsby sits on the straps so you don’t drill holes in the body. Then where the strap button is on the bottom, the end strap screws into the bottom of the body. In short you buy a Bigsby B5 and attach it to to this without drilling anything. You then install the bridge and adjust intonation and string height. They say you get a video on how to do this???Question of the day. I have a Fender Hot Rod 40 watt amp. When I crank it I get the famous 60 cycle hum. I have a Electro Harmonix Hum DeBugger that cancels out most of the hum. It wouldn’t matter the amp, even a smaller one, you crank it you get the hum.
But with all this extra metal being installed, would I get so much more hum????? All said and done its about $300 for the whole set up, maybe $350. For that I could have the best of both worlds. I could keep the Tele, get a cool Ibanez with a vibrato and not have to worry. Because once you buy it you’re done. It looks slick, but I think it could open up alot of other things. http://www.vibramate.com
Some feedback would be great……………….fresnojohnsPS Everything always seems easy…..not always so!
