I’m writing this not to get sympathy, but as a warning to guitarists. Take care of your hands! I put the guitar down for the month of March to lay tile in on the first floor of my house. It is very heavy work and I found myself gripping and carrying large format tiles for 8-10 hours a day. The result was damage to the ulnar nerve in what I believe to be ulnar tunnel syndrome. The internal pressure on the ulnar nerve resulted in a severe loss of motor control and strength in the pinky and ring fingers of my left hand. This is devastating to a guitar player. We are nearing the end of May and I am just now beginning to get some control back (about 50% of my original dexterity). Talk about frustrating! Thanks to Brian’s lessons, I was making major breakthroughs in my playing speed and accuracy that has all but vanished. Bar chords are still impossible. I am taking B vitamins and aspirin to help restore the nerve and reduce the inflammation, but progress is slow. So please guys, hire a professional if you have heavy work to do. It’s definitely not worth the few thousand I saved doing it myself. Hopefully, with a few more months of therapy and S-L-O-W practice, I will recover, so don’t count me out yet!! Brad
