Well, as from tonight we’re all in ‘Total Lockdown’ in the U.K. again. Guess what, that means more guitar practice.🎸

I’ve not really been out of lockdown since march, was difficult to contemplate going back to work and not knowing what i was bringing back into the house.
It was obvious that this scurge was going to raise its ugly head again…
You guys and girls keep safe...Billy..

My normal life generally includes 2/3 times a week on the golf course. Now that’s stopped, I’ll be out walking the trails of the Shotover Estate regularly.

Saw in the news this morning, sounds like its going to be until mid Feb too. Talking to friends and family in the U.K. does seem to be in a bad place at the moment. Stay safe over there.

Everyone I know here in New Zealand is feeling really sorry for you guys in the UK. UK is an island, same as NZ, so if the government had locked down the borders and got really serious about the initial isolation, none of this would be happening. But at least the vaccine is starting to be doled out, so help is on the way. Here in NZ, we have now tightened the borders even more as of this week. Now anyone entering the country has to provide proof of a negative test before getting on the plane, and they still have to go into a 2-week quarantine upon arrival. They are escorted by police in full PPE gear from the airport straight to the quarantine hotel. About 4 people per day who are in quarantine end up testing positive on day 3, so they have to do an extra week of quarantine. It sounds draconian, but it has been a long time since we’ve had any community transmission. Yesterday we had a music festival with 17,000 people attending and nobody wearing a mask. Fingers crossed it was all virus-free. BTW, 6 international bands did the 2-week quarantine just so they could play at the festival, and now they don’t want to leave. I think they can stay here for 6 months, so maybe by then it will be safe for them to go home.

The U.K. has always had an ‘Open Door Policy” and I’m afraid it’s now worked against us in a bad way. But hey, think of all those AM lessons to learn, I’m spoilt for choice and not sure where to start.

Two differing scenarios going on here though Steve, New Zealand has 2 islands and a fraction on the population the U.K. has, we are also linked to mainland Europe by sea, tunnel and flight. Up until just recently we were members of the European union which allowed unhindered travel between member states, so there was no border control as such, we also have the illegal immigration trade, which can see 20 or 30 thousand people being smuggled in to the u.k… similarities being we are both island nations but New Zealand being more remote.
