Hi folks
Trouble with a G string
No it’s not stuck up my ass
In a quest for a first electric guitar I was trying out an Epiphone Sheraton II Pro made in China today, Epiphone say they are set up in the factory but this one had too much relief in the neck so I did the truss rod then the intonation was also miles out so using open string and then fretting at the 12th along with a Sonic Reasearch Turbo stobe tuner and adjusting the length at the bridge it appeared to be sounding better.
So then I had a play with it and was messing about playing a lick from EP 131 on EBG however if I tried to bend the G it didn’t sound right, but this G bend or tremelo sounds OK on my acoustic with 13 – 56 gauge on it and a 25.5 scale so I wondered if it was the Epiphones 24.7 scale that was the cause.
Then I had a look on the web and found lots of stuff about G strings intonation with problems and solutions
from compensated nuts to using heavier gauges of string and wound G strings instead of plain steel strings to different tunings.Anyone had problems and found a soloution
Heavier guage and wound G strings might be worth a try
I only have an acoustic amp at present a Roland AC33 but the Sheraton sounded reasonable through it might nip out and get a Fulltone Full drive 2 and mess about while the neighbours are out tomorrow.
