Jim Croce wrote some great songs and just as good was his finger style guitar work accompanying himself. I’ve always loved the harmonic licks at the end of ‘Time In A Bottle’, and Brian uses that lick in EP406.

Beautiful James. Smooth and effortless vocals and playing. The only person I’ve ever heard do it better was Jim Croce.

Sublime vocals James and top notch accompaniment on acoustic. Loved the fingerpicking, the thumb pick accentuates the bass notes so well, especially when you play the descending chromatic bass runs. Yes, and the added harmonics on the 7th fret definitely adds another colourful element to the song. All the best!

One of my favorite Jim Croce’s songs! I like to play and sing it too (I’ve learned also the second guitar part), but of course not singing as well as you did. Beautiful rendition!

Thanks to everyone for your lovely comments.
Hey Guido,
If you feel inspired to. Take my recording and add the 2nd guitar part. I bet it would add a lot to it. I’ve always wanted to learn it but never made the commitment.James

I’m not familiar with the number James but I wouldn’t think anyone could play and sing that better than you have just done. The polish and finish is astounding, another superb one for your stage-ready playlist.

Two things are mentioned again and again, James. First how natural and effortless you make it look and that you should be playing some outside venues when things get back to normal.

James-effortless, perfect, melodious, nostalgic I could go on and on. How about doing a live Youtube performance? Even if it’s only 4-7 tunes for a half hour or 40 minutes. More people need to hear you perform whether it is out of at home. Thank you always for sharing your gift.

Very nice cover James. I got mesmerized watching your fretting hand and how effortlessly you handle these chord transitions. Your vocals were also superb as always.

Just incredible James, I’m not sure what impresses me most, the fact that you play it perfectly or that you sing it perfectly. So at ease, and to actually be able to play something this complicated and sing it at the same time is a special talent.

Bravo, James!
I used to listen to Jim Croce when I was first discovering american music in the 90’s and this song was one of my favorites! Your voice is absolutely perfect for his songs, I can’t imagine this done any better! How do you figure out the guitar work, all by ear? Your covers are incredible, James – and if that wasn’t enough, they’re getting better and better!🎸JoLa

Another one here whose very happy to be reminded of this beautiful song. On top of mastering the notes, that was played and sung with subtly and feeling James. Jim would have applauded that himself.

Stunning performance James that really was about as pro as it gets.
Your guitar work was impressive and played effortlessly, of course, but your vocals were the standout on this.
Best,
Liam.

Wonderful James…. both vocals and guitar… so tight, precise and man does this bring back memories of the early 70s…. Kind of bitter sweet ya know? I must be getting old.
