Although it’s too late for the September Challenge, I thought I would post this in the Showcase Your Playing forum on Active Melody since it was finished anyway. This was done back in September 2024, prior to my accident, which has left me unable to play guitar, but I’m hoping to get back to it as soon as I am able!
The challenge was to create a rhythm, lead, or anything you want using a specific chord progression, which is A minor, D minor, G, and E – OR, as an alternative, you could do A minor, D minor, G, and C.
I used Logic Pro to create the backing track using Am, Dm, G, C, and to break it up, I created a bridge near the middle using C, G, C, G, G, Dm, G, Dm. The lead is only my fourth attempt at improv, and I think it sounds pretty good for a beginner, if I do say so myself. 😀
I’ve been occasionally lurking in the forums when I can and can’t wait to get back to it full time. It’s hard to find the time due to all the physical therapy, occupational therapy, wound care I’ve been getting not to mention the need for practicing the therapy exercises. I’m not complaining mind you, I need, and want, all the help I can get to improve my condition and return to a new normal way of life.
You all continue to inspire me to keep learning and attempting improv.

Ooh, that was so refreshing to listen to, Joe!
So good that you still submitted it, doesn’t matter that it’s late for the challenge, it was so lovely and pleasure to listen to! I agree your improv was very nice, and a very good sounding chord progression underneath as well. I’m also glad to hear you’re on the mend. Yes, the convalescence may take a while and it’s a journey but it’s worth it. The most important part is to get better both physically and mentally. Wish you all the best, Happy Holidays!

That’s some nice playing Joe! Those hammer-on’s, pull-offs, slides and bends are sounding better than the beginner tag you give yourself. I hope your recovery continues each day and that you find joy in the new normal life ahead. You are an inspiration to us all!

Hey. Welcome back Joe ! 😄.
I actually think think this is one of the best you have put out so far and all your own too. I liked that you kept the lead simple and melodic with such nice tone and expression.
I was quite shocked by what you went through so your coming back better than before really impresses me 🙌🙌. I know how rehab can knock one back because I have been through it enough times with my hands and that is peanuts compared to what you have had to deal with.
Keep at it 😁

So glad you posted it in retrospect, Joe. This is really some melodic and mellow lead playing. And it shows, that an fabulous musician you are.
It may be that your fate has just slowed you down, but I am sure that with your energy you will find your way back to where you can express yourself musically again. I am looking forward to it.
