I’m sure this topic has been covered ad-nauseum in the past and my submitting the same question is an indictment of my lackluster forum search skills LOL
I want to switch the standard 10’s on one of my strats to either 9.5’s or 9’s. Will intonation need to be adjusted accordingly? If I did the 9.5’s, is this enough of an “in between” size that I could get away with not having to adjust intonation? I’ve played 9’s on my guitars for some time now and just recently got a used Clapton Signature Strat. I love the sound of the guitar and the thicker neck but with the tiny frets and larger gage strings, it is definitely noticeably tougher to play.
Why wouldn’t I adjust intonation, you say? I don’t feel I have the technical expertise to do this properly and therefore take it to a local shop to have them do it, which means I’m out of the use of this guitar for roughly a week. If I can reasonably get around this, I’d prefer to not have to deal with it. But obviously I want it to sound good.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
