When I was 11 or 12 the first riff I ever figured out by ear was the intro from this. That was the beginning of my guitar journey. Cream’s bass player Jack Bruce came up with this riff the day after he saw Jimi Hendrix live.
The journey continues.

Nice, Ralph. Such a classic. Love the vibrato you got on the main riff.

Thanks John. Always sounded like “Jungle Blues” to me. Definitely a Jimi vibe. I’m sure you’ve heard Jimi’s version.
Kind of sloppy and doesn’t go anywhere, but the lick at 00:58 is killer. At 2:25 he throws in some Outside Woman Blues too.Ralph

Wow, you are so prolific Ralph (Do you ever sleep?). This really sounds like the real thing. Great guitar playing and sound is awesome. Forget the fifth Beatle you’ve just been recruited to Eric and the All Stars! All the best!

Thank You Garry. I think I work very quickly, probably too quickly. I did the solo 3 times, and still didn’t quite nail it. It’s a very slinky solo, and I was trying to remember it like I used to play it. It was a lot of fun turning the amp up a little and letting the tubes sing a bit. My German Shepherd didn’t like the amp so loud though. She was giving me one of her worried looks, so I closed the door. It was all done in fun.
Thanks for listening Garry,

Hi Ralph, I remember in school when I was also around 12, a friend of mine got an electric guitar and he played this riff for me- not nearly so well as you have but I will always remember that. You really captured that classic tone from that era.
Like Garry asked. Do you ever sleep?

Thank You Geoff. Yes, Sunshine was a definite “easy” riff to play. I remember hearing probably my first live band at a Jr. High School dance play that song, and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. I was so impressed. They probably weren’t very good, but all of us teenagers thought they were Led Zeppelin.

Love this Ralph! Sounds like the real recording. Where did you get the backing track to play over?
-
January 26, 2022 at 2:56 pm #293460
Thank You Enrico. I got the backing track at Karaoke-Version.com. You can customize your tracks with any instruments you want. Some are pretty good, and some of them not so much. Check it out.
Thanks for listening Enrico,

I couldn’t think of anything better to do in 1967 than work out how to play Sunshine of Your Love when Clapton, Bruce and Baker were at their best. I was 14 and, I regret to say, yet to pick up a guitar, but loved every song on that album – and still do. You’ve been working hard, that’s a great tribute with a great guitar sound.

Thanks Jonathan. I remember my teenage neighbor girl playing this song on her stereo and it had such a cool vibe to it. Probably the drums that caught my attention. I was so proud when I learned the “Sunshine Lick”. Couldn’t play much else though.
Stay Well Jonathan,

I don’t believe you know this song Helen! Just kidding. I’m sure you know hundreds of songs that I’ve never heard. I’m glad I picked one that we’ve both heard. It’s a Rocker, and so much fun to play. When I played in bands this was always a crowd favorite.
Thanks for your comments Helen and Keep On Rockin’ It,
Ralph

Sounds like the real deal Ralph. Another classic song covered authentically. Brings back a lot of memories. My first band. I had a cherry red Fender Mustang and a Princeton Reverb amp. Our only gig was the at the junior high bowling club dance. We only knew a half dozen songs. We played ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’ two or three times. 😉

Thank You James. Don’t you wish your first bandmates could hear you now? I bet you wish you still had that Mustang and Princeton. That would be a great combination to start with.
Thanks for listening James, and Stay Well my friend,

Thank You Andreas. I was trying to get a live loud sound. Playing could have been better, but the attitude was right, and it was fun turning the tube amp up a little bit.
Thanks for listening Andreas, and Keep On Creating,
