I always keep my eyes open for important resources and here are couple that you may be interested in.
Artec general wiring diagram book. This covers wiring pickups on both guitar and bass. [Artec has a full line of products that get pretty good reviews: http://artecsound.com/ ]
http://www.artecsound.com/wiring/wiring_book01.pdfStewart-McDonald Trade Secrets newsletter. Subscribers get problem-solving tips, helpful how-to articles, and first dibs on exciting new product releases.
http://www.stewmac.com/newsletter.htmlIf anyone is considering installing new humbuckers, I recently installed a set of Wilkinson PAF in my 335 copy. The originals were made with ceramic magnets and the Wilkinson’s are made with Alnico. Wilkinson advertises these as a design ‘given to Trevor Wilkinson by the creator of the humbucking pickup design, Seth Lover himself. This is an accurate of a PAF-style pickup as is available today.’
These pickups are are very reasonably priced – $45 on Ebay for a matched set and as an early impression, they sound really good. The originals were OK but at times were overly bright and sharp but that is in the past now.
The black and zebra model Wilkinson’s are even cheaper if you don’t mind ordering from Hong Kong. There are 2 different models of these so if you are wanting realistic PAF sound, make sure that you are buying the models with Alnico magnets.
