This is my 3rd thing I have posted in about 6 months and there are mistakes but right now it’s the best i have. I read somewhere in a post that we should post our recordings no matter what because that is how you improve. Well it was hard to post this but it’s better than nothing! Its a start to improvement, I hope. I am no expert at recording but I used my phone and at the same time my daw so when I was done I just deleted the phone sound and added my daw sound. I think I have them lined up ok. I added some cheesy effects I probably should have left out.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Syncing was good and the effects were just fine. Well played.

For someone who has only started posting you seemed pretty loose, your chord work especially came over. Mixing chords and lead with no backing track is always daunting I thought you did a decent job
I log on every month an soak up the great contributions that everyone has made, by taking part it really gets me fired up to play more get better and look forward to doing it all over again.

Nice job Cobalt! I learned that one too. It’s fun to play. Keep participating in the challenges. It will motivate you to be a better player.

You did it almost perfect, man! For me this lesson is quite unknown, I never heard it before and didn’t hear anyone playing this. It’s not the simplest lesson in AM and you nailed it.

Hi Cobalt,
Well done. Absolutely no reason why you should not post. It is how you improve by getting feedback.
Have to look up this lesson.
Hope to hear you post again next month !Peter

What are talking about, dude? That was played perfectly well, guitar tone was excellent, the recording was really good quality, the video was good. You just need to sit back and admit that you did a great job on it. And feel free to start posting more often.

The good parts of that far outweigh the slight hiccups. Your sound was great. Your phrasing is quite musical, and you have a nice sense of time. There were a couple of hesitations, but they don’t get in the way of enjoyment. Only other thing is I think you may be playing with too much finger pressure, which is really easy to do when recording. Some notes sounded like they were going sharp, but only on the b and g strings. That’s usually either a question of finger pressure, or the nut slots being too high on those strings. It’s a pervasive problem on electric guitars, especially with lighter, unwound strings.

Thank you Duffy. I have heard the notes going sharp also on other things I have done with this strat. I did try light finger pressure and sometimes I was barely pressing and I could sometimes hear notes going sharp. I have considered getting it in for a good setup and have the nut looked at. At the same time though I’m sure that nerves had me pressing hard. I do know myself though and sometimes doing things I do overpower it. I mean my golf swing when I played a lot was more like a baseball swing! A set up is in order though for sure. It bugs me too.

You’r definitely too much worried man. What I heard sound’s good! It looks easy when you play. In my opinion it’s ok to record with your phone, that’s wath I do all the time. Finally, keep your effects on, it’s cool not cheesy

Great job! I agree with previous comments that you’re a bit hard on yourself (our biggest critics are ourselves) I was determined to get my post “perfect” this month but after like 30 takes I had to use what I had, mistakes and all. Keep up the good work and enjoy!

Cobalt – that was fantastic my friend. I didn’t really hear any mistakes (as you mention) – very clean playing and tone. Thank you for sharing!

Nothing shabby there Cobolt, it was a very enjoyable listen. I’ve heard quite a few luthiers say that the most common fault with many guitars is the incorrect height of the nut.

Hey great job on this! Your tone is the BOMB!! I love the cheese! Can you share a few bits? What kind of Strat is that? Are you playing through and amp or digital audio work station? Love this. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. I am probably the last guy on this whole forum to get tone tips from so I think I just got lucky! I will be more than happy to tell you what I did. I used a Katana 50 on crunch channel with a the gain knob pretty high. A drop of reverb and delay from the amp. I miced my amp with a Shure SM57 clone and used a Focusrite interface into my laptop for the sound. My daw is called Mixcraft and it has a million plug ins in it so I added some compression, a bit more reverb called freeverb and a effect called treble cream that seemed to fatten it some. The guitar is a Roadhouse Deluxe Strat with the newest version of noiseless pickups. Not really any rhyme or reason but what I choose sounded good so I went with it. Glad you liked it. The first day I tried to record it though I was using my Vox AC10 but my playing was not up too par. Honestly, for doing what I was doing there was not much sound difference between the Vox and the Katana.

This is fantastic, I started this lesson back when it first came out but never finished it (I do that a lot) Perhaps I should go back and give it another chance. Thanks for sharing.

Mistakes? If there were any in there, I completely missed them. That sounded perfect to me, and the tone and recording was about as crisp and clean as it gets. I also missed the cheesy effects you speak of… where were they? It all sounded awesome. That was a killer post man. Really well done.

Very pleasant sound and well played.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Hi Cobalt, I’ve only just picked up this thread and I agree with most of the others, that you were much too hard on yourself. You managed to produce a great submission from a difficult lesson and despite that, looked quite relaxed throughout. Congratulations on the tone you achieved, I would have been very pleased to have produced that quality.
