This is a great workout (Tony Rice version) of Norman Blakes’s Church Street Blues .. I’ve also been learning Norman’s original but I’m still learning his smooth style which is awesome too .. hope this inspires and enjoy! Martin 000-M15 with the recommended silk wound Martin strings

Good stuff John, looks like it’d be a good workout for the pick hand. Sounds real nice on that Martin!

Thanks Rob, I still try to get it like Rice plays it (very unorthodox flat picking) did you know Tony Rice was a big time jazz accomplice before he made it big time in country bluegrass? Much the same for many these professional skill level players.. I just like to bounce around learning a bit of from whatever/genres I like listening to and try it lol.. if it is too difficult, I put it away for another day.. that way it is fun and not frustrating or like work lol..going to try ther original Norman Blake next.. but won’t rush.. that will take time too. enjoy Rob!

This is probably my favorite bluegrass tune and I’ve posted it here before. Tony Rice is an amazing flatpicker, but every musician in this video is amazing.
Much of bluegrass is old fiddle tunes that aren’t that difficult to play. But they are played so fast, it takes a real good picking hand.
You seem to have a knack for it John. I’ll listen to any flatpicking you post. -

Sounds great… we must be on the same wave length… just got a new Martin (used) and that’s all that I have been doing is flat-picking and playing rhythm for my brother while he plays the banjo!

No idea what “Blue Grass” is though I have heard of “Blue grass racing” in Kentucky, so im guessing it comes from that region of America..
Did i ever tell you i once meat Ian Anderson?, He owns or used to own a salmon fish farm in the Isle of Skye..anyway, long story and no really relevant.. I enjoyed you showcase as per usual, your a pretty talented guy on guitar John.
