Getting bit by the Grand Funk Railroad bug again. Listened to them a lot in high school and left them behind when I discovered The Allman Brothers but I saw this video last week and its really peaked my interest again
To me, this is beyond raw – its almost primal in its execution. Amazed me
The guitar that Mark Farner used in this performance is a Messenger, only made for 2 years. It had a built in fuzz tone circuit and from the tone, I think it was very likely built with germanium transistors and/or diodes. Much more… well, raw in its tone.
Shame that they can’t bury the hatchet and get back to making music as 3 friends like they did in the beginning
