I’m only posting this because I’m challenging my stage fright problem. I didn’t put much production effort into this. Heck, i didn’t even think to shave first. More of a click record and go…
I think the vocal mic placement is problematic, getting a bunch of room. Maybe leaving it in the box is the best placement LOL.
Anyway, here goes nothing.

No problem with any of that Jim, just the opposite, it was terrific, both guitar and vocals. Very entertaining, so much so, I’ll look forward to your next ‘stage fright problem’

Fantastic, Jim! One of the best I’ve heard yet. You sing and play like BB King.

Man alive Jim. If you struggle with stage fright you sure didn’t show any signs here. Great vocals backed up with cool solos and fills. Bravo, man.

Jim, nothing about this says stage fright – perfect playing and vocal.

Jim this is a really good recording well done. You’ve got the feel and the phrasing right there. Its no chimera for you.

Had to look this one up. Thanks, and you might be right. All in my head. Or putting it out there is breaking me of it

Thanks everyone.
I think its pretty common to not like your own voice. If i try to listen objectively, I’d say that in the future I should transpose songs to a more friendly key. Im not sure that i like singing enough to put the work into learning to do it properly. And i need to work on mic issues, distance, levels, room noise etc.
Anyway, it was a fun exercise and i think it helped me.

Hey Jim, you sound awesome buddy! Beautiful slow blues playing with some real tasty licks, and your vocals sound great as well. I don’t particularly like my own voice either, but people tell me it’s not too bad. I think your right in saying it’s a common thing. You do sound really good, Jim, and you could be out there leading a blues band anyday. Great job!

Really enjoyable performance, Jim. Vocals add so much and your vocals were very good. Very cool guitar, looks like a Fender headstock but Gretsch style pick ups. In medicine a chimera is a person with two genetically distinct cell lines, kind of like the guitar.

JohnIts a 2019 Fender “Cabronita” Tele. I knew nothing about them until I saw one at a little local shop. They’ve been making them for a while, usually in Mexico, but this year they did a limited edition version, built in the custom shop (so I’m told). 3 colors including this gold one, only 150 of each. Phenomenal quality build for the price of a USA main shop guitar. I also think its the only thing coming out of the custom shop that isnt reliced… It has TV Jones Filtertrons, no tone pot. One volume and a simple 3 way switch.
I absolutely love it!

Well, Jim, that wasn’t “nothing”! Great blues singing with a feel and a superb guitar work! Pretty amazing for just “click record and go” 🙂
And btw, one of the most iconic voices, Jimi Hendrix, never liked his voice either 😉🎸JoLa

Fantastic, that was a professional blues performance, great singing, really distinctive blue voice, great phrasing, and your guitar tone and playing were right on. If I heard that on the car radio i’d think Clapton for sure.
Super well done Jim.
And as for stage fright/performance anxiety, it’s all in your head (ha, ha), only cure is to get out there and keep doing it, gain confidence from all of the positive feedback you’re getting.Five Stars, or as Lights would put it, 5 Finger Snaps.
Groovy man! -

Hey Jim, that was most excellent in all respects. And a really cool song. With the phrasing skill you have, I’m really looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the January Challenge. To me, you are good enough to be onstage in front of a crowd of thousands.

Here goes nothing!, I can tell you that “there went something”, you had me hooked at the start of your vocal and it just got better as it went on, man if that’s what stage fright does, then I’m wanting a bucket full..
Don’t know the track, but I’m wanting to know more about it...Billy..

Perfect phrasing and guitar tone as well as spot on bends and timing. Loved the singing also. Complete and beautiful performance Jim. Reminds me a lot of the way Gary Moore played this song. Bravo!

You know what, I am really annoyed at myself here. I didn’t realise that Fleetwood mac did a version of this song and i call myself a Peter green fan…
Bit of digging gave me a bit of history of this song, was written by Duster Bennett, released in 1968..
Fleetwood mac, 1970 and the harp is now a guitar though i think the rhythm is a bit clunky..
though i have to say gary Moore’s version from 1992 is much more refined

You’re all super kind! And how cool that this tread spurred some research into a great old blues standard!
I learned, and it was fun. Thanks again everyone

Billy a nice addition to the thread.
Thanks John, it irked my curiosity as I had never heard this song before but could hear traits of Greeny, B.B. and Moore in the execution and phrasing.
One of the main reasons why I keep coming back to the forum is the gems like this from Jim, Dave, Roger and the many other AMers who keep educating me...Billy..

Absolutely live it! I hope you will get over your stage freight. I have the same, sometimes I even get tensed when I hit the record button haha!
As a Gretsch and Tele lover I really dig your guitar! Sounds amazing!
Im planning to change pickups on one of my gretsches to dynasonics and then I will put the blacktop filtertrons in one of my tele’s -

Jim, look at yourself! Why still doubt? That was so good! Do a couple more videos and then don‘t hesitate too long before you post us some footage with you on stage.
Interesting guitar, by the way. It Sounds very nice and I really like the simplicity of having just one volume knob.
