Yesterday was a crazy day for me so I didn’t get a chance to post anything. Around 2pm yesterday, I was being made into a pin cushion as I was in my 2nd acupuncture treatment so I can’t say that yesterday was pointless.
My thanks to @Don Deering for his help with this list.
I’m including several versions of this song but there are many more on You Tube if you want to research more.
From Wikipedia – “Key to the Highway” is usually credited to Charles “Chas” Segar and William “Big Bill” Broonzy. Broonzy explained the song’s development:
Some of the verses he [Charlie Segar] was singing it in the South the same time as I sung it in the South. And practically all of blues is just a little change from the way that they was sung when I was a kid … You take one song and make fifty out of it … just change it a little bit
The version found on the Layla album came about when Tom Dowd walked into the control booth only to find Eric &Duane in a jam session with this song and Tom ran to the board to start the recording. It is said to be a one take live recording.
@Don Deering sent me the version of Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry. Brownie has long been my fav acoustic blues player and this live recording is no disappointment. In addition to his great playing, Brownie was a really good singer
