Well done, Stuart. That’s some first class playing, perfect timing, perfect tone. And a high quality video, as well. And a tasty bit of improv at the end. I would have liked to hear some more of that.

Nicely accentuated played. It reminded me a bit of the Shadows. Cool was your improvisation at the end; unfortunately a bit short. I would like to hear more.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Thank you sir! I think you’re asking about those octaves near the end. You pick a lower note while simultaneously plucking the same note one octave up. Unique sound and actually not too difficult.

Hey Stuart, this is my second time around listening to this. And it sounds even better than the first. I really love the tone. It fits the feel and groove to my ear for some reason. Happy to see you reposted it for all to see…they obviously love it too…great playing!

Thanks buddy, I really liked the ‘minimalist’ vibe of this challenge, gave us a chance to explore tone and the space between the notes. Really enjoyed your take as well!

Oh man, Stuart, that was superb! I enjoyed listening to the flawless and perfect sounding theme and when you started your improvisation, I stopped in my tracks, this was just stunning! You mentioned octaves… I gotta learn that, if sounded terrific, sort of jazzy! I really wish you had played longer! And what did you use to make your strat sound so good?

Thank you JoLa, very kind comments. Yes, octaves have a cool and unique sound, just pick a lower note while simultaneously plucking the same note one octave up. I used ‘Church’ reverb from my tc electronics Hall of Fame pedal, and the ‘Tape’ setting of my tc electronics Flashback delay pedal. Also some compression from an Xotic SP pedal for extra sustain.

Awesome second post, Stuart! After just looking at your first post (EP278), I don’t think you need guitar lessons.

smooth, confident, expressive
really great Wes Montgomery style octaves 1:20-30, and perfectly executed pull-0ff/triplet thing to close out at 1:35; mellow tone and lots of clarity in your playing. Also we haven’t seen shoji screens since Bryce’s postings.
well done Stuart-

Great job Stuart – beautiful playing and improvising (I particularly loved the octaves that you were playing) Also I have to give you credit for a great background – that looks awesome with that lighting.
-
December 9, 2018 at 10:05 pm #118883
Thank you Brian! Several commenters have expressed interest in those octaves, might be something fun (and relatively easy) to include in one of your lessons. I played in cover bands when I was younger, set it aside for 20+ years, recently picked it back up. Your lessons are perfect for me ’cause I know “how” to play, but you’re teaching me “what” to play. Very happy with AM, keep up the great work!
