Hi Folks.
I’m hearing some great submissions and it looks like it might be another record turnout.
Had a Lot of fun with this one. I always like a melody to work with so I borrowed one from a popular song from the 50’s. I’m sure many of you will recognize it. -

That was really cool. The way you adapted some of those classic licks and fit them into this progression was creative and worked very well. Nicely done.

Great James! I do not know the song you refer to, but I recognize a soulful melody which fits perfectly the backing track. Next challenge, you owe us a double dose of singing! Phil.

I really like the melody line you created, James. What a clear idea to connect them all with sliding double stops. Very nice composition.

Clever to blend an existing melody with your own mix. Terrific and soulful. Was determined not to leave the page until I could work out the popular song you borrowed. It did sound familiar. Well, ten minutes later … On a Slow Boat to China. It has also been a ukulele songbook choice for social players.

You got it JFL!
I guess it’s not that well known but trying to come up with ideas for the jam track this melody came into my head.“You Belong to Me” is a romantic popular music ballad from the 1950s
“Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it’s wet with rain
Just remember till you’re home again
You belong to me”

Love the double stops, James. I’m at a loss for the song, also, more of a 60’s guy but becoming more and more of a 50’s fan.

James, one thing is always very clear to me about you; you play very soulfully what each track needs and what makes up the whole package.
Very nice to hear my friend.Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Great double stops. Not quite a 50s guy more 60s but reminds me of the old 45s records I would have played then. Brought back memories. Cheers.

Always a pleasure listening to you James. Great composition and really enjoy your relaxed approach and the fact you are obviously feeling the music as you play. Don’t know the melody you based it on but … doesn’t matter. Successful submission. All the best!

Hi James,
Love your guitar tone, the overdrive makes it better. The use of the basses is also good.
Too bad you made it longer because I try to listen to everyone and that takes a long time.
Thank you for sharing your submissionEnjoy your day

James,
Jo Stafford – 1952 – great song and you created magic incorporating that into this challenge. Expertly done.

You’re so good at pulling the popular melodies from your head and working them into your solos, James! Although it sounded very familiar I could never have known the exact title but as usual, I just admired your playing with a nice crunchy sound of your Epi 🙂

Not familiar with the song but more than enjoyed your reworking of it. Lovely soulful feel. Excellent technique on the hybrid picking to balance the tones of the finger and pick picked strings. (try saying that after a couple!)
You had that guitar dialed in at just the right level of break up, the tone was superb. The more I hear the Epiphone LPs the more I want one, they’re such fine instruments. -

Some real soulful playing from you here, James. Loved the tone and the double stops. Not sure the 50s tune you are referring to, but sounded great! Loved it!

James,
That was masterful. You made it seems like the backing track was made for the melody you developed. And I loved the overdriven sound played lightly. Well done!

Very good! Your melody is really enjoyable to listen to (no matter if you borrowed something, even great composers borrow)! And that’s the more important thing that you can do, make the listener happy to hear your music. And, at least for me, you did it!

I knew the song, but I couldn’t put a name to it. Thanks to JFL for sparing me the research. I wish I knew how you combine known songs with am tracks so that they are still recognizable. Great skill. Needless to say hoe much I enjoyed your rendition. Great stuff!
