November 2021 Challenge Response – Marie Jarreau
Hello AMers,
I’ve been thinking all along about what I might possibly submit for the November Challenge while wading through the cardboard boxes that still color my household! I decided to focus on Brian’s lesson on the Minor Pentatonic Scale and created a “riff” that I really like from that ‘keep it simple’ lesson learned using just the ‘top’ strings. Then I added Lick3 from Module/Unit #3 of the Blues Lead Guitar Course. I’ve enjoyed working on that ‘Unit3/Lick3.’ I don’t yet have the exact ‘feel’ with that short piece that I want, but will keep working on it. I’ve been slowly making my way through the course and not perfecting all the licks but have actually gained a much deeper understanding of what Brian teaches and of playing lead guitar in general by working in sequence thru those lessons – when time permits!
Though a short and sweet series of notes. Unit3/Lick3 is one I’ve really enjoyed and decided I should add it into this new song.
The other Riff that I created has become a real fun piece to work on. I think my “progression” through the parts of the song needs some work for better continuity but so far, I like the start of this tune. Now, here’s where I feel that I should explain and perhaps apologize to those “vino connoisseurs” if I’ve gotten terminology incorrect! While I love learning about the process of growing grapes focused on wine making; and I do enjoy an occasional glass of red wine with good friends – it’s an area I know very little about. BUT I love ‘language’ in general and decided to try my hand at this unique vocabulary. It started with a friend who said he enjoyed songs in different languages, whether or not he understood the translation! In another convo at the same gathering someone mentioned a personal choice for Pinot Grigio or Pinot Noir.
Well, the writer’s instinct kicked in – with life-experiences of my own thrown in for good measure – and here we have my newest musical conglomeration: “Pinot Grigio” – which is still a work in progress!Following Brian’s instructions I didn’t add any accompaniments or pedals (I’m not that sophisticated yet anyway – LOL!). BUT – I find it hard to start playing guitar, especially a new composition without adding lyrics! Hahaha! So I tried to stick to just guitar playing for the first minute or so before “breaking into song!”
Captured with iPhone video while camcorder, DAW, etc. are still stashed away!
I hope you enjoy what’s here. Critiques and musical suggestions are welcomed. :0)Shout Out to PhilB whose AM avatar pic seems to be offering a toast – vino? LOL!
