Just glad to complete the challenge and come up with an arrangement, which is half the battle. Its a dilemma when you can’t use the nylon because the strings are too high for a faster lead run and the electric because its hard to contain the finger placement to a thinner neck. Maybe I need a Taylor GS mini. Anyway I practice this so much to get it to a reasonable standard of playing. Still have a long way to go before its comfortable to play but this month is also a time to reflect because November 2019 I submitted my first challenge. I thought I would just be a one hit wonder and fade but it has been a year of continual growth with the challenges that exceeded my expectations of what can be achieved.

Nice stereo sound of your guitar, Laurel. You had using the flanger effect probably. Beautiful.

Used the Old Tremolo amp from Garage Band for effect. Without an amp it doesn’t sound much.

You are very creative, Laurel. A floating sound floods the track. Well done.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Nice finger picking! I find it harder to finger pick my electric guitar as opposed to my wider finger board acoustic . But I guess it just takes practice?

Nice job Laurel. Twelve challenges in a row is a great accomplishment. BTW the melody I used on my submission was ‘You Belong To Me’. Mike W commented on YouTube, ‘one has to be of a certain age to know that song, sadly I’m one of them’. 😀

Laurel,
Your classical style works well this blues tune. Nice composition, the fingerpicking over the backing track is vert pleasant to listen to.
Well done!Bruce
PS Congrats on Year One. Go back and hear how you have improved.
Just focus on the notes you DID get right . . . Frank Vignola

Hi Laurel,
I am a little confused with your entry. I think it is nicely constructed with the combination of chords and pieces of solo. But every now and then some false sounds creep in.
If you are used to a guitar with nylon strings, then the neck of an electric guitar is very narrow. I don’t play a guitar with nylon strings anymore, but it took me over a year to get used to that narrower electric guitar neck. This year I was also about to buy a GS mini. But the sound was disappointing to me. I then tried all the major brands (up to 1500 €) that I could find for easy playability and sound. Eventually I ended up with Taylor 12. To increase the playability even more, I put .10 strings on. (and it is perfectly setup in the store for free) I would have preferred the version with electronics, but it sounded a little less good. If you have several guitars of the same type there will always be small differences in the sound and in this case the 12 happened to be better than the 12E.Enjoy your day

Nice composition and well played as always, Laurel! Congratulations on the whole year with the challenges, I’m really glad to see you sticking with it and sharing your growth with us, you’re definitely not a one hit wonder. I look forward to your submissions because of their originality, I like that you’re classically trained and always infuse that into your playing.
If you wanted to play a lead higher up the neck on your classical guitar, maybe you could capo it on the 5th fret or above? That’s unless you need the bass notes, of course. I would also be careful considering a GS Mini as their necks are very narrow and the strings might be too close for fingerstyle playing. Personally, I love my GS mini, I have small inflexible hands, so it works for me and yet I sometimes wish for a bit wider neck. Martin guitars have slightly wider nuts/necks.

LOL I don’t know anything about classical, someone else mentioned classical. This was based on Ep351. Its the ragtime and percussive lessons and trying not to use my thumb like a pick that has developed this style of playing.

It’s not such a simple arrangement you played for this challenge and you played well. I remember your first post and you have made great strides in your playing. Congratulations on a year of challenges. Perseverance seems to be a key ingredient in learning the guitar. It takes time, but seems to be working for you. Nicely done.

Congratulations on that first full year. Hope its the first of many. Another step on the road with this entry with its relaxed mix of chords and lead lines. Sounding great. I wouldn’t worry too much about the change in neck profile, the fingers will eventually sort themselves out with practice.

Congrats on sticking by for a whole year. And it shows. Your fingerstyle playing is well applied to the electric. Just play it more often, I am sure you will get used to it qucikly. I think fingerstyle sounds great on semi-hollows, so I hope you will use it frequently. Very nice composition, Laurel.

Very nice playing, I liked the 2 ideas – block chords and lead, they sounded great and also interesting. Well done!

A lovely soft mellow sound with the finger picking is accentuated by your choice of licks and chords.
Great entry
In terms of the difference in neck widths you’ll get used to it 😉

It’s encouraging to see that you participate in the monthly challenges for a year now. The unique sound of your piece this month was very atmospferic. You can do nice things on the guitar within one year, which took me several years. So keep up the growth and you will be an all times hit wonder!
