Hi! 🙂
Every lesson is a challenge for me but I thought I got a hang of those two until I tried to record them! I took so many takes my fingers started to cramp and were completely forgetting what to do, haha! Anyway, ragtime blues is fun to play so I will keep at it.
Looking forward to watching everyone’s submissions, there’s such a great variety already 🙂

Well JoLa, I hope you had as much enjoyment from playing those fingerstyle ragtime pieces as I did watching you. That is, apart from the sore fingers. Your attack and syncopation was spot on and a real treat to listen to …thank you so much.

Very nicely played and both favorites here too Jola!

Fine finger picking and great sound out of your Taylor. You seemed to gain momentum as you went on.

Understand the frustration. The exact same thing happens to me. (Glad you mentioned it because I thought everyone seems to be able to do it without much hassle). It’s that record button that makes it a different ball game altogether. Once again a great presentation and performance. I agree, ragtime is a fun style and you are good at it. Another style to add to your portfolio.

Hey JoLa, I really enjoyed that. I don’t really hear any issues with that recording. I’ll be honest, that’s not your best but you’ve got a way of snapping and attacking those strings that brings that acoustic to life. This was no exception. Great finger style technique.

Very tough indeed. You play better than me. Nice job Jola. Cool background video too. :-))

Jola, you did great…sometimes you just have to plow through it, and you did it and it worked….

Here you are, Jola! it’s very cool to hear you playing at 3 o’clock in the morning. Just arrived from gig. Can’t get sleep yet. Very nice job, really. Piedmont blues in key of C is my favorite. Thanks for posting these lessons.

That was nice playing Jola! That happens to me all the time when I hit record but that helps us all to keep improving. Recording two songs will make my fingers ache too!

Very nice Jola. I like it. Is that a Baby Taylor? Do you ever have any issues with your acoustic feeling hard to play? Did you have it set up? Thanks.

I really like your attack on these pieces. You play with confidence which is always attractive in a piece. It gives the impression you are in the moment which is exactly where you should be!. Great video producing.
A quality package!!!

Nicely played, Jola. It seemed to me that the first one was more difficult for you than the second one, or maybe you were just more chilled out by the time you recorded the second one. I also used my Taylor GS Mini for this challenge, and it seems to sound better and better as it gets older. They really are perfect guitars for fingerstyle blues – lightweight, really easy to play. I’ve got .010 strings on mine so I can do those bends easier.

Well, JoLa, I think you had a lot of fun with this fingerstyle ragtime piece; your work on the fingerbord is very down to earth. The groove was great and connected with a corresponding attack. If your fingers hurt you try it with slightly thinner strings. It’s not easy to play such things on the acoustic guitar; I liked it very much.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

JoLa, that was wonderful picking. Very well played, relaxed sounding and with a final smile! Yeah I always need about 10-20 takes until I am happy with my submission. Keep on rocking.

Hey JoLa
Your productions are always inspiring and fun. This is no exception. Your playing is spot on and your Taylor is still resonating in my ears. I share your pain and have to laugh when you talk about all the takes… I know how it is. It can be maddening. Thanks for sharing. -

JoLa those two sounded like really difficult songs to play. No wonder your fingers were cramping up. I seem to favour playing the GS mini when submitting acoustic songs, I just love the sound of it. Seems like quite a few of us are suffering from the “Red Record Button Blues” Maybe that could be a theme for a challenge – I already have some lyrics in mind!
Anyway I think your playing sounded great – wish I could pick like that.

It moved along nicely and your finger-style playing was really sweet

Awesome job! Loved the feel, the tone, everything about it was a joy to listen to.

You played those very well Jola. I often use a capo on the 2nd fret or higher. The frets are closer together and it’s easier to play.

I almost gave up trying to find an open space to type in….too many congrats notes to get through. So the votes are in…You knocked it out of the park….AGAIN…..this has to be getting old for you. You’ve a broad fan base.
In all seriousness, your play has grown by leaps and bounds……Congratulations!!!
It’s a pleasure to listen to….you are REALLY playing that thing…..

Those are two of the most difficult lessons I could imagine, JoLa. Way out of my skill-set. And you nailed them!
Way to go!!

Very good feel, as always. Soulful, smoky Appalachian vibe. Never been to the area (yet), but I feel as if I am there! Hide

… Is that a Baby Taylor? Do you ever have any issues with your acoustic feeling hard to play? Did you have it set up? Thanks.
Cobalt, it’s a Taylor GS Mini. Yes, I did have it professionally set up like I do with most of my guitars, it made a huge difference.
Do I ever have any issues with my acoustic feeling hard to play? YES! But electric guitar also brings other challenges so it’s a good balance. And I can’t really play a full size acoustic so I gravitate towards smaller body/shorter scale guitars.

…
And BTW, I attached a screen shot of the videos I took for the challange, some of them contain several takes, yet there are also a few I deleted because they were too big..Haha, Israel, that’s what my phone gallery looks like at the recording day only times 2 or 3! Thanks for that, it brought me some comfort 😉

Yes, I agree, the GS minis are perfect for fingerstyle blues, perfect size for me, too. I also have .010 strings on it. I also have two GS minis! 😉
You’re good! I don’t know how you noticed the difference but I was, indeed, a bit more familiar with the second lesson 🙂

Jola that was really really good. I think I said this last time, but THIS is your best playing yet. You really are quite the accomplished fingerstyle picker. you make it look easy 🙂 great job. I cracked up at the little finger dance you did when you finished the first one.

Hi Jola, Well played. You may have worn the fingers out a bit and I thought RichardG made great comment. Brian has put his thoughts in and I can only second that. You’ve captured the nuances of the style that’s quit the achievement and makes for great listening.
