Well here’s my Challenge Response, I thought Brian’s original melody was beautiful and was a treat to play. My usual recording equipment went haywire at the last moment so I just managed to cobble this together quickly, please excuse the side clipping. Thanks to all who’ve published so far.

Richard,
That was excellent! You make it all look so easy and the tone from your Martin guitar was just terrific! Smooth delivery with no hesitation means you knew the scale and where to go. Great.

To me, that was a first class recording. I really like the reverb you used, which added to the soulful mood of the lesson. Your timing was spot-on, so I’m guessing you spent quite a bit of time perfecting that. Well done!

Great improvisation Richard and always found the way to the main track. That was really cool. You played everything very calmly; obviously everything was fine. Very impressive.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I’m always impressed with your confidence and relaxed feel on the acoustic Richard. You have a great ear for improvising and navigating the fretboard. Always a pleasure to listen to.

Well, Ŕichard, others above have said it all and I agree with them 100%! Always impressive to see you master the fretboard with improvisation. This time so subtle and fitting in well with the main theme. Always a pleasure to listen to your recordings, thank you!

Terrific, Richard! Interesting and creative improv and very good control. I also really enjoyed and was impressed by your sound. A reservation I sometimes have about some fingerstyle players on steel string acoustic is a relative lack of definition and clarity, but that obviously couldn’t be said here.

Hi Richard, well played as always. It’s interesting in members comments to hear colloquialisms from around the world. You “cobbled this together”, Lights used ‘fishes’ for flubs and Paddyboy’s ‘holding it dear to his heart’. These are phrases us ‘Yanks’ don’t hear often.😀

You’re right James, these are quaint phrases from around the world, it’s great, but you Americans have a whole vocabulary of your own.

Beautifully played James. Too bad it cut at the end I was kind into hearing where you were going with it.
Great ideas in improv. Great tone on that D-28 i believe.Richard

Just a quick note to thank everyone who responded with their kind comments. Probably the most important thing for me about these Monthly Challenges is that they force you to focus the mind. I often think when I watch other member’s submissions is ‘why didn’t I think of that and from that I guess we all learn from each other. ‘Self-perpetuating’ now there’s a thought.

Judging from that, I think you could probably of just gone on for hours with that backing track and continued to improv over it and keep it interesting. Really a pleasure to listen to and impressive improvisation skills!
