Hello my fellow GAS afflicted friends,
I am delighted to introduce my newest addition. I purchased this online from Chicago in late April. Teddy at Mak’n Music was great to deal with. I was going to make a custom order when this one appeared on the website. It ticked most of my boxes. I have tried so many strats and was very confident of what I wanted. The original purchaser, who placed the custom order, forfeited his deposit and they passed the savings on to me. I deferred delivery due to a holiday but thanks to UPS it took a month to travel from Chicago to Toronto. Apparently it went between two UPS locations 24 times and the vendor finally got it back to inspect. The outer box and case were damaged and he told me there were two small surface abrasions. I debated but he replaced the case and took another 10% off; I couldn’t resist. Happily, I can’t even see what he was referring to.
I am more than pleased. I like the way it looks, feels, sounds and plays.
Specs:
Modern C neck (slim but substantial), 7.25-9.5″ compound radius fretboard, contoured heel, fretboard is a thick slab of African blackwood, 6105 tall frets, nitrocellulose finish, roasted alder body, Sperzl locking tuners, custom shop hand wound dual mag pick ups (alnico 5 on bass strings, alnico 2 on treble strings, treble bleed on the volume pot to maintain highs at lower volume. The pickups are probably mid range output, great sparkle in the high end, nicely balanced and with great quack in positons 2 and 4.
Funny thing is, it looks very much like Billy’s Squire strat. We could debate all day if the custom shop price is worth it but I can definitely say this purchase is worth it to me. This is a guitar I will keep forever.
John
