HI: 64 year old male just taking up electric guitar. Confused about where exactly you play a note. It’s my understanding at least that, say for instance you want to play a single note on the 5th fret, that you play it in the 4th “open space” as close to the 5th fret (including the nut) as possible. Is this correct? I see some teachers online saying play a note on the 5th fret and they are fingering that note AFTER the 5th fret in the “open area”.
Somewhat confused about the major scales, minor pentatonic shapes and major pentatonic shapes. The 2 pentatonic shapes are in the major scales? And of course there’s the CAGED system. Thought guitar playing would be relatively easy to learn! Thanks Harry
