Well, technically it was yesterday. 🙂
I have been playing a Bugera G5, which has a lot of really nice features, but is more of a heavy metal amp. It is hard to get breakup and tone shaping on the minimal controls for the clean channel and the overdrive is way too overboard for my taste.
I saw this used Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 5 on our new Music-Go-Round store website for really good price. The store dangerously happens to be on my way home from work. I always thought these amps looked cool. It is hard to find reviews for this particular model since its been discontinued. But I figured I’d take the chance.
Wow, this blows my Bugera out of the water. It is so smooth and really easy to get creamy blues tones with just enough breakup out of it. It has full control for both clean and overdrive and seems to also be much more sensitive to the guitar volume and tone settings than any other amp I’ve ever played. Now if only I could step up my playing to match it…
