I’ve just finished doing a complete electrics upgrade to an asian LP or is it a Guild Bluesbird copy???. I wired it in the original 59 style with new CTS pots & Mojo Dijon capacitors. The jack was replaced with a Switchcraft which I believe is a must on all cheaper guitars, I had an old Seymour Duncan JB 59 neck pup & an original Law Suite Fernandez PAF for the bridge. When I get the time, I’ll replace the nut with a genuine bone one. From my test playing, it’s been a huge improvement on the Epiphone pups I found in it. In the mean time, all my parts for my Gretsch 5120 have arrived, so I’ve started the upgrades. The first job was removing the original tuners & replacing with no name gold vintage style. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on the upgrades because you could end up spending as much as a proline Gretsch 6120 would cost. So as the new pickups are gold Gretsch HS Filtertrons, I wanted matching hardware & I got the tuners at a bargainbasement price off eBay from a Hong Kong seller. I’ve removed the original pups & the next job is installing mounts inside the cavity where the humbuckers had been. That will be tomorrow.
Here’s a photo of the job in progress. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B30AFIAOpHbwTnpTY19pR19lTnMCheers Mike
