Dear readers,
In my track I want to modulate this 3 chord progression C#m sus 2 (1) – E (3) – F#m sus4 (4) in C#m 1 or 2 semitones up and then come back to C#m. Ive been googling a bit about ways to smoothly transition between different keys and there are multiple ways to do it so I just tried something called the 2 5 1 method which means that you play the 2nd, 5th and 1st chord of the key you want to transition into before moving to that key with the rest of the progression. I naively tried dumping the 2 5 1 of C#m in front of the progression when coming from the same progression 2 semitones up from C#m (cant figure out the key im in at that point, getting confused by the suspended chords) and it sounds terrible. Is that just because the 2nd of a minor scale is diminished or because im using 2 suspended chords? or are there other rules (for example about the distance between the 2 keys you want to transition between) to follow when using the 2 5 1 method?
Also, what technique would you try to modulate between minor keys 1 or 2 semitones from each other with the mentioned progression (C#m sus 2 (1) – E (3) – F#m sus4 (4)).
Thanks in advance for answering!
Greetings,
