I started looking at Brian’s lessons on how to use modes, EP178 (Santana) and this one, EP179. Still not very familiar with how this works, but I do like the sound of these two modes. So I did Brian’s EP179 example here, plus I found a few choruses from Duke Robillard and Herb Ellis, the tune Easin’ In from their Conversations in Swing Guitar CD.
Guitar notes: I recently put flat wound strings on my Epiphone Wildkat, based on a suggestion from Duke, as I wanted to get an old-timey 50’s-60’s sound. They’re much quieter. Also, they’re the heaviest gauge I’ve ever used, these are 13’s. I notice you’ve got to be more precise with the left hand, much more than with my 10’s, so you get a few clunky notes at first. But I like the round sound. So I don’t play much jazz, but this is my jazz-blues-swing guitar, for now.
Here it is, the Mixolidian Mix:
Just focus on the notes you DID get right . . . Frank Vignola
