Hey Jola, I really enjoyed your “Echos”! Very smoothly played too.
I love this month’s challenge… it is really bringing out a lot of creativity in folks. -

Beatiful! I like very much your composition and the atmosphere you created with it! A kind of melancholic but also sweet mood! I think you’ve a real talent!
And, of course, I like very much the reference to Pink Floyd in the title (“The echo of a distant time comes willowing across the sand …”) and in the Floydian “The Wall” fonts!Guido

Lovely slightly melancholic melody delivered with a nice soft touch. I don’t recognise the guitar but my wife has an electro-acoustic ukelele with a similar looking headstock logo. It’s a Lag which I believe is manufactured in France.

Hey Jola,
I took the trouble to take a look back at your past entries, you’ve made a great progression, you’re playing great, really top. -

Great stuff, JoLa! Awesome interwoven melodies. Did you use a stereo flanger or envelope filter or something else for the “movement”? Sounded great, whatever it was!
-
March 26, 2021 at 2:54 pm #243192
I just used a GarageBand acoustic guitar preset appropriately named Swirling Echoes. It does have some echo and flanger in it 🙂

Well, I first became aware of the video content because the image was moving; everything else has already been described by Guido. JoLa, that was very profound and demanding. You are extremely talented. Big compliment from me. As was to be expected, you did the job bravely. Yes, a masterpiece!
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

JoLa your composition is well played, musical and freeing. I could listen to this all evening. I appreciate how you take risks and always come up with something well worth the listen. Thanks for sharing. BTW, did you get another guitar? 😉 I think you love guitars like I do. 😉

This was probably the best piece I’ve seen you do. The affect of the black and white art moving around was a little mesmerizing, in keeping with the far out tone you came up with. I also like the occasional bass note you put in there.

Sweet and moody light and dark, builds like the ocean. Anticipation and tension, resolving into the wind.
Jola, you have real talent. Great use of dynamics and the flanger was subtle and appropriate.

JoLa, I’ll ‘echo’ what has been said above. Beautiful fingerpicking, beautiful composition and video. You’re attention to detail is to be commended. I know I’ve only been on the site for around a year but your submissions are always a highlight. Love your guitar also. All the best!

Very well done Jola! Great playing, great arrangement. It’s sets a cool mood. That stereo effect is perfect for the sound. Who’s the artist behind those changing drawings in the frame behind you? They are cool 👍

Hola Jola.
It’s in these free compositions where I think you bright the most. At this one, It seems to me that you put to work some of the Brian lessons about how to use chord shapes, double pick, and hammer embellishments. Cool, really cool.
It also looks you’ve been working at your sound settings and record quality, this one is perfect in both.
Not easy to fill this time with just one guitar with the quality you’ve shown.About the pictures in the back … the initials on the last one make me think that is yours.. isn’t it? 😉 they’re interesting and nice too.
Hasta pronto

You’re right, David, the artwork was done by my young self back in the old days. It is signed with my maiden initials and titled “Echoes” and clearly influenced by the PF song of the same title 😊

Brillant, JoLa. I would like to second Dave: we need that album! Your original compositions always are a highlight at challenge weekends. I did not get all the reverences like Guido, but surely learned a lot. Thank you!

I think that’s your best composition yet, the spaces created really added to the thoughtful piece…noodling that got firmed up very successfully. Confidently played too. Nice one JoLa.

March 28, 2021 at 2:45 am #244205
This is a very nice submission JoLa. It’s shows a lot of talent and creativity when music matches the visuals as perfect as in your video. Making the musical , playing it so perfectly by yourself, selecting the right sound of your guitar, mix the sounds together, making the artwork, record and edit the video etcetera… It’s actualy teamwork done by yourself. I’ve added this to my favorite list! Thanks for sharing.

March 28, 2021 at 7:19 am #244356
Hi Lola, at first I thought there was a second guitar playing in the background… but than I realized it was as the delay effect. Great slides and perfect fingerstyle mastery… Is that your preferred guitar style? Anyhow, very impressive contribution, and the video accompaniment fits perfectly the mood!

Fantastic arrangement. Captivating fingerstyle playing enhanced by the moving visuals. Nice choice of colours too which gave it a sophisticated look to match with the playing. Top notch.👏

What an absolute super delayed echo sound on your guitar.
You have enormously progressed in fingerstyle playing and composing!!
I think this was your best and most creative AM submission.
Fantastic.

You outdo yourself each month Jola. Your compositions are getting more and more sofisticated. I notice your use of repetition to great effect. That is what makes this challenge so addictive. You get to learn from everyone (as well as Brian of course).
Most entertaining.

You’re getting better and better, JoLa. The opening reminds me a bit of Paint It Black (i.e., Stones). Keith will be proud. And you also got some of the classic/European feel. It’s great you can just noodle around and come up with a piece like this. Very talented.

Jola, I went back and listened a second time. It is funny how you hear different things when your re-listen. I also noticed your bounced the sound between L and R on the recording… really cool effect. Did you design your shirt to (looks like it matches the art)? Cheers. Pap

March 28, 2021 at 9:49 pm #245048
Great observation, Pap, bonus points for you, too 😉 No, I didn’t design the shirt but thought a black and white pattern would fit nicely here 🙂

That was crazy good Jola! hands down your best composition (in my opinion) – the fingerstyle work was really nice, great chords… and just the general mood it creates. Loved your artwork visuals as well… I saw in the comments that they were drawn by you. You’ve created a whole multimedia experience with this one!

Hi JoLa!! Incredible as always. Loved the phaser/Leslie effect. And the different voicings for your chords. That is one of your 35 gitfiddles, eh??? And all those Picassos on the wall!! Sweet vid. And The Pink Floyd flavor “tasted” sooo good! I always enjoy your subs JoLa. Excellent my friend! Bobby Ut

Wow Jola, I wouldn’t know where to begin, there are so many things which make this such a complete performance in both composition, playing and production. The swirling echo effect (thanks for the headphone tip) the changing framed artwork in the clever video. But most of all the playing and composition stand out. Well crafted and beautiful to listen to.
By coincidence i wa listening to Echoes for the first time I years the other day. Found out the whale noises were produced from a strat played backwards through a wah peddle. Always thought it was a recording. If your interested….-
March 29, 2021 at 6:48 pm #245453
Wow, this is cool, thank you for that, Andy! David Gilmour did some amazing stuff with his guitars, also with a slide, where I would have never thought it was done on a guitar.
