Hello everyone. So here is some Latin noodling in the key of D major built on a 4 chord progression lifted from my Boss JS 10 Practice amp. (Dmaj7,E7,Em7,A) I wish they had a bridge but alas, all we got was what amounts to the first line of Girl From Ipanema. Still fun to noodle around…Marty’g Rig Run down follows for a close up of what guitar was played.
If you’ve any questions, I’m only too happy to answer them.
To clarify on my guitar…..it’s a Semi-hollow, not a full hollow….Also, this guitar was manufactured in Japan which is where Gretsch has their high end guitars put together. A similar version made elsewhere in Asia can be had for less than half of what the Japanese version goes for. That is why there is such a wide variety of prices for Gretsch guitars.OK everyone…..stay safe and keep your head down…..(Mainly, don’t touch your face and wash your hands with vigor!)

Quite good my friend… Great groove and you weave it together nicely. I need a candle light dinner with my sweetie to go with this. Oh man, a little “The Girl From Iwo Jima”! Love your productions. Great playing on this. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Marty, I enjoyed your spontaneous noodling, it certainly was a welcome distraction from that “surreal dream’ you mentioned. Your beautiful Gretsch reminded me so much of the 6120 I owned in the 60’s. Another one slipped through the fingers ….

That’s some pretty fancy noodling Marty, you’re going to be able to open your own music store soon. Pretty Gretsch guitar…..
Stay safe over there Marty!

Beautiful playing and great tone. I think I don’t really want more guitars, I have one acoustic and one electric, I don’t crave for a Les Paul, Start or Tele, but I won’t say no to a Gretsch… 🙂 Awesome looking and sounding guitar!

Really nice groove you’ve got going there a very enjoyable listen
The Gretch pickups have a real unique tone to them, it’s a lovely looking thing as well veritable bargain at that price.

No PHil,
I’m not familiar with that guitar…that wall is all PRS guitars with different paint jobs and pick up configurations….
I live in a small town with a high end guitar shop that specializes in PRS’s and the great trade ins that people trade for PRS’s. (briansguitars.com) So clearly I spend too much time in his store….You wouldn’t believe it but I’m relatively restrained in spending….I steer clear of PRS Private Stock models that hover in the 10K to 12K and up range.
Thanks for commenting….Marty

Very enjoyable. I loved the Gretsch of course, and the way you gently coaxed (or noodled) those delicious tones out of it. I hope you’ll do something in a similar vein before too long…

Israel. consider your lack of craving for more guitars a blessing. Your retirement plan will look much better owing to your immunities. LOL

Oh man, what a wonderful jazzy bossa nova, Martin.
Your show room is driving me crazy; I’m sure you’ll soon have more equipment than a small music store. Anyway, you’ve tuned your guitar to a great fitting sound. Stay healthy and take care of yourself.Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I’d put a tip in your jar and I’d be that guy clapping in the lobby bar with my before dinner drink (hmmm Iberostar or Excellence, hoping we get back there one day).
Those Princeton reissues are nice. I have the Vibrolux in the same series and a friend bought that Princeton in the same shopping extravaganza. Stay well, Marty.

Great noodling, Marty, totally chilled. And I did not know that backstory on the Gretsch guitars. As an interesting sidenote, I know a guy here in New Zealand who goes to Japan once a year and buys 50 – 100 used guitars, then brings them back and refurbishes and sells them here. He says the used guitars in Japan are way cheaper than in most countries, and usually in pretty good condition. Apparently no one wants to buy a used guitar in Japan, so they pretty much just give them away. A used Fender Strat sells for over $2000 here in NZ, so he makes on average over $1000 on every guitar, even after the shipping costs. He just does it as a hobby because he likes fixing up guitars.

Thanks, Steve…..Very interesting story regarding your friends enterprise with used guitars. Thanks for sharing that. Not sure why the Japanese don’t favor used guitars….??? Best way to buy as far as I’m concerned. I am fussy, though. They have to be in near mint condition for me to take an interest.
