For the March 2019 Challenge, we can choose any blues lesson and pretty much do what we want with it.
Hmmm…. This raises the philosophical question of what qualifies as “blues”. Wikipedia says this:
“The blues form, ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues and rock and roll, is characterized by the call-and-response pattern, the blues scale and specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues is the most common. Blue notes (or “worried notes”), usually thirds or fifths flattened in pitch, are also an essential part of the sound. In the 1960s and 1970s, a hybrid form called blues rock developed, which blended blues styles with rock music.”
So in that case, it would be fair to ask what ActiveMelody lessons are NOT blues. I’m thinking of trying one of the Allman Brothers style lessons (there are several to choose from). They use the blues scale and blue notes. I guess their style would be called blues rock.
