Ah, “Every picture tells a story”. Takes me back to the early 70’s when I was 13 or 14, My first teenage love Christine was a big Rod the mod fan and that was one of her fav albums.
I liked their music too, that mix of country/blues/soul that they had back then was refreshing in amongst all the pop and glam rock.
Great track is Mandolin Wind, thanks for reminding me of it and reminding me of Christine, John. I sometimes wonder what happened to her and how her life turned out..
..Billy..
Yes, the latest lesson had brought my attention to this favorite mandolin piece,, mtv days me too Billy, here too, reminded me the high school days many were huge fans Rod,, that Ron Woiods sure could play too,, notice the little sized sister slide played here? pretty cool tune, I might have to checkout a mandolin someday (sized for fat fingers).
As a teenager, I had ‘Every Picture Tells a Story’ playing on my stereo in my bedroom. Loud of course. My Dad comes in to call me for dinner. First he tells me to turn it down. Then listens for a second to Rod’s high pitched raspy voice and say’s, “sounds like SHE’S got a cold”.
Thanks for this, didn’t even know Rod played an instrument! I really liked the pre-disco lounge act Rod – this album and Gasoline Alley as well as when he was with The Faces
