Most today are familiar with the electric guitars now sold by Ernie Ball but shortly after the sale of Fender Musical Instruments to CBS, Leo founded Music Man. This company was short lived but Leo introduced designs of both guitars and amplifiers that were unique.
During these years, the guitars were based on the Stratocaster except most were equipped with humbuckers but Leo being the genius that he was, in addition to toggles for pickup selection, he introduced bright boost, internal pickup phase reversal, active cut & boost for treble and bass, & volume. (Check ebay for Music Man Stingray or Sabre guitars & bass; you have to add Leo Fender’s name to the search)
His amps were hybrid design with solid state pre-amps with tube output and meant to compete with the amp line that he sold to CBS. While many were switching to Marshall during that time, Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton chose the Music Man amps and were the brands best advertisement. The 2nd link is to a story of Knopfler’s use of these amps.
