Hi all
A tune in A Major – based on the circle of fifths and an earlier lesson (which I forgot to note) using E and A caged shapes but leaving the A string open.
My learning this month (my second challenge):
* careful not to add bass drum via my right foot tapping the floor!
* don’t rush the tempo …I did and it shows
* find a way to minimise string squeak from my fingers running up and down the neck

Really lovely, bluegrass style, tune there, Tim – played beautifully 👍
Don’t worry about percussion, I’m sure we’ll all be tapping our feet just like I was 😂
I like getting some squeak on the Acoustic – in fact I actually try to get some; I think it adds to the Acoustic sound.
Best regards 😎

solid bass drum, charming arpeggio, : enjoying light hearted rhythm.

Thanks Phil…I was determined to submit first takes, but it was all my foot drumming and no guitar 🤣

Really intriguing composition! Loved it! Beeing a fingerpicking guitar lover (as a listener, and trying to be a player), I have to say your rendition is really very good and enjoyable to listen to! The tempo choice is perfect in my opinion, really very well played, the alternating bass almost like a metronome. It’s very interesting that you are picking with only thumb and index, like (among others) the great Doc Watson did. Lovely submission!

Thanks Guido…I am a latecomer to fingerpicking so thanks for the positive feedback. I try to use more than finger and thumb sometimes but this one seemed to just need the two! Enjoyed your piece and you have a lightness of touch that I could learn from. Tim

Thanks Vincent…I left the shades on so you couldn’t see the fear in my eyes! I used my iPhone to record (the Taylor has a lovely sound doesn’t it?) but found an app Dolby On which seems to brighten things a bit on the iPhones microphone. Tim

Lovely tune Tim. Played very well and I’m amazed to hear it was recorded on your phone. That app makes a huge improvement in sound quality. The guitar sounds great.

Thanks James…yep am keeping it low-if for now! The AM membership was a Birthday present in March so maybe an iPhone Mike for Xmas 🤞🏻. The Taylor has a nice sound and captured ok I think..the app is good but some of the “tools” can make it a it like you’re underwater 🤣

Wow. Excellent. I hate to say it but, if I tried pulling off a composition like that it would take me about a million “takes” to get it right. Yours looked effortless. Great job.

Thanks Craig…I took a while to get the sequence down during the month and the tried to forget that I was recording it…I enjoyed it though..and the challenges stop me just noodling aimlessly 😁

AWESOME Tim! I loved it. Didn’t seem rushed to me at all. Tapping your foot is A Ok with me. It kept you on a steady BPM/pace! Loved the chord progression. Kinda a blend of John Denver and Don Mclean. Great job Tim! Bob

Tim, that was played very nicely and put together well. It was very pleasant to listen to you. Quiet, with a warm sound and presented fluently.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I really like it, Tim. Nice chord sequences and flawless fingerpicking. As for the string squeak, mine mostly went away after I switched to Elixir Nanowebs. I have one acoustic that still has non-coated strings, and whenever I grab it and start playing, the squeaks are so loud it scares me.

Sweet composition, love that subtle melody , didn’t sound forced tempo to my ear if it did ,it was minimal , and your right foot keeping time that’s what it’s there for and it’s hands down better than any metronome in my opinion. A fine submission and a enjoyable listen , well played .

A very fine performance Tim. This being only your second Challenge you played extremely well and made it look easy. Your fingerpicking is very clean and I thought you had a steady tempo throughout. The chord progression worked nicely and I loved the arpeggiated chords giving your composition a fluid, flowing effect. All the best!

Amazing what you can do with two fingers, a nice guitar and an innate sense of musical structure and composition.
To use a rocket-science analogy, this piece achieved lift off and flew beautifully.-

This is so good. The rhythm is foot tapping and the picking is excellent. Loved the entire piece. I wouldn’t think too much about the string squeaks, it adds to the acoustic flavour.

Hey Tim:
I really liked your song and performance. Your groove was so solidly established by your steady thumb! And the good news about string squeak is that is usually accompanied by bright treble sounds and yours were really nice. The feel seemed similar to “here comes the sun”. Very enjoyable to hear you play.
Cheers, Tom

minimize string squeak? well, probably a job we all must improve.

Great accurate and soulful picking, Tim. Top performance with a great composition. I think the sigh at the start of your video hinted at the the red button effect, but you changed that nervousness into something positive with the first note. Great job. 👍🏽
