Dear AMers
When I joined AM 14 months ago I could play some Cowboy chords in only one position on the fretboard.
Now I am still playing Cowboy chords – a bit enhanced – on different neck positions – with triads – with some muted strum rhythm – with a bit Rockabilly style. My real breakthrough is a steady learning progress on playing the Blues guitar – thanks to Brian’s AM and thanks to my AM friends and AM community!
Some of my guitar playing light bulbs:
– Brian’s triad lesson EP362 (so cool to play “easy” chord voicings on different neck positions)
– rhythm lessons (incl. learning muted strumming)
– learning to record with DAW and video SW
– my collabs with JoLa, Garry, Bobby, Martin…and Andy!! Thank you, it’s been so motivating.Denise
More Blues!

Hi Denise. I am just sitting with my son (12 years old) on our porch and he joined me watching your video. So, it is easy for me to reply to your response, I just quote my son: „Hey, Di isch ja voll guat“ (hey, she is very good, spoken in an southern dialect of German). „Isn‘t the guitar too big for her? (😂, sorry, I said no). Anyway, tell her she sounds great“. Well, I just did that.
I think you can‘t get a more honest opinion and for him this is high praise, indeed. (He never said the same about me playing 🤔).
By the way, nice flag! Great job!Bluesige Grüße

Hi Denise:
That’s a really cool piece. Lots of great licks and no boring cowboy chords! Chetty’s a great guitar for that style (and any other style:-). Thanks for sharing your inspired guitar story – you’re on a fast track!
Cheers, Tom

Hi Denise,
From Cowboy Chords in first position to this performance in 14 months. Really astonishing! We’ve all learnt heaps and for me personally, this is your finest performance. Love the whole feel of this and the muting is absolutely first class. Thanks for the mention above, it’s been a pleasure. All the best!

Hey Denise, that was an excellent slice of Swiss Roll ( with some rock thrown in for good measure). Your technique has improved vastly and its frightening to think how adept you will be in another 14 months. Great job.

Nicely played and very cool mix of chords and licks…and very smooth rockabilly rhythm which is really tricky to get right and you did perfectly.

Great submission, Denise, beautifully played 👍🎶
I wish someone had taught me just one or two triad positions to play all over the fretboard when I was starting out! Having to learn all first-position chords right off makes many people just give up I think!
Best wishes 😎

Well played Denise! Really good. You always chose a pretty haunting sound; fits perfectly with your playing. Well done.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Way to play that, Denise! You should sell your house and move to Nashville as soon as possible (maybe after Covid has passed). You could become a country music superstar, easy peazy.

Hi Denise, wow that was cool love the groove those muted strums make this piece ,so subtle but really effective the one at 0.15 sets the trend , the one thing I love about Active melody is watching player’s progress your journey over the last 14 months is impressive and your practice has rewarded you , the timing articulation and detail of your composition was top notch ,take a bow lady you rock!

That was very musical Denise, loved the piece, as well as your playing. Loved the idea of a flag on my desk, will do that too, besides trying out more of triads and muted strums.

Incredible Denise how much you have grown in 14 months. Your confidence makes for more relaxed playing and great sound and tone. I like the Swiss flag in your Martin gitfiddle. I hope Robin is feeling better. Keep up your progress – it is impressive. Bobby Ut

That guitar has always been a standout, as has the quality of your recording. (I’m still struggling with that and telling myself it’s the music that’s the important part, not the recording.) Anyway, the quality of your recording and the sound you get out of that instrument makes it easy to see how well you have put Brian’s information into practice.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing you play this ever since you gave me the tip off 😉 You did an outstanding job and I know you’ve not been working on it that long either. Those tight muted strums really driving the rhythm particularly after coming out of licks like at 0.20. Chetty enjoyed that for sure, just the right tone dialed in! You’re journey has been extraordinary over those 14 months, you’ve become a complete player in that time. Many thanks for the mention too, it was a pleasure to play with you. Oh, and you kept me waiting for the twang! 😉

I always look forward to your playing and I am always amazed how spotless everything sounds! The sounds of Chetty is majestic, of course, but it’s the way you play it that makes the difference. Love the muted strums, that’s one of the techniques I have been fascinated about, had no idea about it until Brian’s lessons. I had to smile when I watched you play them so well 🙂
Knowing the chords across the neck is an ongoing revelation for me, too! Thanks for the mention, working on a collaboration definitely put me out of my comfort zone which we all know is a good thing if we want to improve, so thank you for that idea 🙂
