Hi all, wanted to report back on my trip to Syracuse NY to see the Jimi Hendrix Experience Tour. Wow, well worth the money. Basically they take an all-star line-up which they mix and match -bass players, drummers, etc- to creat sets of Jimi’s music headlined by a famous guitar player. Billy Cox, Jimi’s bass player on Band of Gypsies and Chris Layton SRV’s drummer hold down the rhythm section for a big part of the show. The lineup varies a little based on location and dates….we had Eric Johnson (OMG), Taj Mahal, Dave Mustaine, Jonny Lang, Joe Satriani and several others as bass players and drummers. Each guitarist interpreted Jimi in his style of playing….which was really cool…the faster more aggressive songs were done in the more modern heavy metal or Van Halen style of playing…..while the Satriani set was amazing, it served to reaffirm my love for the slower traditional styles….Taj Mahal was fabulous…a living legend doing catfish blues in an extended version was out of this world. Whenever I see legends like Eric Johnson, I can’t help but feel in awe of playing that way for an hour, no mistakes, flawless, beautiful blues guitar…..
Full 3 hour show…if you can see one I highly recommend it….
