Duffy’s awesome January 8 post of LEG005 inspired me to try it too. No way I could do LEG005 fingerstyle, so I tried it with a pick like Brian’s original. The first take is an attempt at Brian’s fast tempo, and the second take is somewhat slower. Needless to say, I still have a ways to go.
I used my Seagull parlor guitar, because to me it sounded very similar in tone to the cool, antique-looking guitar Brian is playing in the video.
Thanks, Larry.

Larry, you have definitely nailed it! The first take on the lesson is admirable both for speed and technique!

Your slow version is way faster than many of us could do it. Great job on another tough lesson.

Well done Larry, I couldn’t do it certainly not at that speed.
It really swings, however I think it would sound better if you played it a little slower.Keep up the good work

Very cool, Larry. That sounds like a difficult lesson, and I must give it a try sometime. Plus, I’ve GOT to get one of those Seagull parlor guitars (GAS is beginning to set in).

That’s a classic lesson. Your slow tempo was plenty fast enough. Well done, Larry.

Slow down, Larry, You don’t have to play it so fast! This is really one of the classics of AM and it’s in my playlist too, thats why I can say that it’s not necessary to play it so fast. It’s the only reason you didn’t get it on 12 points. Keep on rockin!

Hey Larry….First, congrats on taking it by the horns and wrestling it to the ground…..but
I agree with Lights….slow that sucker down and take the time to appreciate the melody and down home rhythm.
Gotta say you looked good though….love that Sciencefiction snarl…..lots of energy….and as always, fun the watch and listen to.Best regards.

You need fingers like lightning Hopkins( was there someone with that name?)to match the speeds of some of Brians Songs, some times I think slower is better but both your renditions were top notch to me Larry, well played man..well played indeed.

Hey Larry, great playing and an authentic old school sound, nice choice on the Seagull. I preferred your slightly slower take, I agree with others who suggest try it slower still.

Larry,
You’re grabbin the speed demon by the horns. I didn’t think your “slow” tempo was much different. I think if you slowed it down even more you be right in the groove.

Hey Larry, The parlor guitar sounds great man, Seagull makes some nice Guitars What i love about the BLUES is there aren’t really hard and fast rules. Weather you play it slow or fast doesn’t really matter-it’s all about whether or not your feeling it. I admire that you always have passion and feel behind everything your playing. The faster tempo version had some really cool moments, but you seemed right at home with the slower version. As always your just getting better each time you post.
Play Loud!

Wow. That’s really impressive Larry. You have the lines and the timing down really well, and I think the first take is faster than Brian’s.
I agree with many of the others that this piece doesn’t need to be so fast, and that it may even sound better slower. But I also think that it’s a great idea to build up the speed so that the tempo becomes a matter of choice and not necessity.
Oh, and this sounds really good as you played with a pick. Well done.

Larry, I was watching the part where you were a bit slower, that I liked it a lot better. I mean that this lesson can be played a little slower and you even revalue it. I think the sound is pretty good too. Anyway, I’m impressed with your speed.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I actually enjoyed the slower version Larry, which isn’t really all that slow. Probably faster than most of us could comfortably play it.
Great job Larry.

Larry,
You reached a new level with this one! WOW. The tempo alone was amazing but, you added a great sense of groove and energy to your rendition as well.
Awesome, Larry!

Larry,
your workin in man! like the slower version best but both were good. I would suggest a slower tempo to work on your meter. Speed will come later so keep up the great work bud.

Hey Challenge Champion Larry!
I definitely liked the slower version better. I think you have the mechanics of the lesson you just need to fine tune the timing. I know when I jump into one of Brian’s fast tempo songs I rush even more than I need to. I have to slow the piece down and gradually build it up or I will always rush horribly.
I have always admired the attack in which you play with. It is super cool. Keep the good work!
