too frustrating for me trying to learn speed picking, not fun either,, i can only handle those lessons in small doses,ex: Paul Gilbert teaches /shows some incredible exercises with his long fingers lol, but i think it is too much work and less fun..slow is more fun sticking with Brian here!lol

Talking to yourself is one thing but writing to yourself has surely got to be a sign of madness..hahahaha

If i can’t edit/Delete my own topic,I figured I try making some sense out of it,, you’re write,, I mean right! and it is sad.. but seriously, I never performed for a real live audience.. I have to feel more confident to even consider playing out!..Wonder if any members found “local meetup” thread useful? lol..anyway no biggie , i like it this way, learning and practicing and building confidence so IF (not when) I ever play out or jam or audition locally, I should have enough skill.

Surely you have a buddy who’s always wanted to sing? First step is the two of you jamming together around a couple of beers… Step two: invite another buddy with a guitar to come join you. Maybe serve up tequila that time. Step three: once you’ve worked up a few songs, you play them for the wives/other friends. Maybe make sure they’ve all had plenty of rum.
Alternatively, my brother-in-law takes “band” lessons every week at a local music school. It’s him and five or six other adults who have always wanted to play in a band but never had the guts/opportunity to do it. They have a teacher who organizes their practices and three mini-concerts each year. He’s loving it — and he was confident enough to get up onstage with me a few weeks back.
Which inspired me to do my first solo performance (on banjo). Playing solo is something I’ve always been too scared to do…
As for those guitar virtuosos: most of those guys put in hours each day starting from when they were really young. Like 8-10 hours per day. If that’s any comfort…

My dentist is a great drummer who plays locally at a local bar that do jam nights..I say yes maybe someday,, but in truth i’m not even thinking unless i jam with a few garage/basmt jams.. .. not to mention I am very forgetful of a lot I learn,, I think i identify key progressions enough to get the rhythm maybe small solos in the pocket too ,, but yes sure it is fun once you get good enough,,i’ll probably try it with a few friends maybe fall or winter. For now I still enjoy just practicing and learning and trying to remember enough of everything I’m practicing.

Billy , or everyone for that matter, if you are ever down Gourock way on a Monday night we have an acoustic night in the Victoria Bar from 20:30 til 12:30 aprox. No real blues but folk, jazz but mainly pop stuff. Eagles Paul Simon Bob Dylan, you get the idea.
No stage just sit around play one number and then the next guy goes.
Anyone can join in or take a solo we’re not precious but we are welcoming. If you’re on the bike you can borrow my guitar. Just check I’m going first.
Look forward to seeing and hearing anyone who pops in.George
