I’m a basement guitar player. I love the guitar and play for my own enjoyment. I’m looking for suggestions
1. I have a real-life setup that I like very much: guitar -> tuner -> distortion (tc electronics mojo mojo) -> looper (tc electronics ditto) -> amp (Roland Blues Cube Stage). I can get quite a few sounds, it’s fun to play loops and solo over… it works great. I think it’s literally impossible to get a bad tone out of that set up.
2. So, naturally, I started looking for change.
3. I decided that the route to go was to replace all that and move into the virtual world. I thought that would give me maximum variety per dollar. So, slowly and on sale, I put together a virtual setup. I now go guitar -> Scarlett 2i2 -> MacBook Pro -> KRK Rokit 7. I have this setup for maybe 2 months now.
a. I’ve been using NeuralDSP’s Archetype Nolly standalone SW (or, rarely, GarageBand) for my pedals and amp. I’ve heard demos of it where the tones are just spectacular (I play them on my computer through the same speakers I play guitar through). But I’m struggling just to get sounds I like:
b.Here are a couple of demos of the SW that sound great to me
c. I’ve gone through about a zillion presets and tried tweaking the ones I like, and I’ve sat and just worked on one tone for an hour and I’ve copied people’s settings from YouTube demos and tweaked them…
c. Incidentally, I lost the looper function. I can open GarageBand and record a loop – but it’s not as effortless as just tapping my foot while I was already playing.I’d welcome any suggestions for improving the tone of my virtual setup or nifty ways to implement the looper on the computer.
Thanks!
