Tony Joe White – many of you have heard his song Polk Salad Annie. Unfortunately, it was the only song of his that I was familiar with until recently.

Exceptional guitar player with a laid back style similar to JJ Cale; from what I’ve read, Mark Knopfler is a fan and the influence can be heard in Mark’s music

Oh, wow, me too! What a shame, this is such an extraordinary music, I love it! His voice and music sort of reminds me of Chris Rea and I love his guitar playing style. What a gem, thanks for sharing this, GnLGuy!

Absolutely beautiful… Love that clean Strat sound.

“Polk Salad Annie” caught my ear as a kid and I bought the 45. Listening today, the song has that swampy blues and amazing groove that never gets old. Thanks for posting the other less familiar stuff, also, Keith.

      Hey John

As you know, there is huge number of musician’s that have just “never made” it to the big times. I love finding these people and sharing them. To mention a few –

      Kim Simmonds and Savoy Brown
      Danielle Nicole Band
      Heather Newman
Twelve Bar Blues Band – a band that I just found yesterday that is from the Netherlands. The song below is a great minor blues, as good as I’ve ever heard

Definitely has the ‘southern feel’ to his songs. I agree with the similarity with JJ Cale, Chris Rea etc, they all play with that wonderful lay-back and relaxed feel with the solos mostly being played in the lower to mid register. I’d always enjoyed Clapton/Gill’s version of Polk Salad Annie but the first time I’d really discovered T J White was Brian’s EP212 which was my May’19 Challenge and thoroughly enjoyed playing it.
      Thanks for the post GnLguy.

I always thought “Polk Salad Annie” was an Elvis number, Never gave a thought that someone else had written it or for that matter done it better.
A few more CD’s to add to my collection, which now means I will have to put in an extra shit to pay for them…cheers man.

Very cool! Being in New Zealand, I’ve never heard of him, but now I have. On the other hand, most people in America have never heard of Neil Finn, who comes from my little village. He’s currently touring with Fleetwood Mac.

Neil Finn ……. Is he from Crowded House Steve? One of my favourites groups from a while ago.
And my favourites TJW track would be ‘Closer to the Truth’ …. There’s a great video on YouTube somewhere, recorded in Germany I think, but I can’t find it right now.

Tim and Neil Finn, made up Crowded house. The brothers former part of the line up of “split endz” before forming crowded house. Some great music from these guys, songs which always sound great on acoustic guitar.

Good find GnL, TJW makes good use of the pentatonics in a gentle and relaxed way, a great number.
While I was listening to that it reminded me of a recent atrocity, where we were banned from making guitars from Brazilian redwood but when we get ‘Closer to the Truth’ it seems perfectly acceptable to burn the trees down.
