I thought to maybe help others with some cool Active Melody selections to go well if interested in putting a few lessons together for practice..
My January Favorite lists keeps growing today I revisited two lessons that play well and pretty much the same in key E and so are the scale shapes.
I so far saved 227 288 to practice along with 327 in my January favorites collection
good luck and enjoy everybody, plenty other AM lessons I’m sure can go well with 327!

Thanks for the tips. I’m finding the January challenge unexpectedly difficult, especially building in some fast licks. I did discover that there are some useful ideas in the ancient Hendrix style lesson EP058, and also EP175 and EP206. But in reality, after scouring the internet for days, I’m starting to think that Brian’s creation in EP327 may well be one of the best super slow blues compositions of all time.

Been with Brian for 5 years and yes, EP327 is my absolute favorite! Took me a month to harness it, esp. matching it with the normal jamtrack. Once you nail the timing, becomes second nature. Truely excellent work from our man Brian!

i know Brian explained how difficult it might be in his intro video..I honestly had no problem with this lesson..in fact it seemed for me like a micro lesson compared to many other more involved compositions.. this one to me me is like a micro lesson compared to just the few a just mentioned..sure they all need practice ,,but for me it is much easier knowing I’ve completed most on active melody… I could search any lessons elsewhere but there is more than enough interesting lessons here to showplay .. Brian once asked us participants to keep the challenge showplay relatedly short understandably.. i have nothing to prove, i can nail down any lesson on this site … i just wanted to share what came to mind knowingly..
it is fun to share ideas from others too for 327 as we know , there are way too many similar active melody lessons here that will fit perfectly with 327 ..I’ll check out your recommends thanks sunjamr steve

yes, I added them to my jan list favs.. they are all doable and work with ep 327.. there probably is another hundred lessons for takeaways.. i just remember the rules for any monthly challenge should try to keep the submissions under a couple minutes.. so i guess what I could do as usually is just practice them all back stage lol and when submission time comes just do the drill.. 327 like she outta be done and than some!
okay i’m excited ,,going to continue where I was! ty again enjoy!

This challenge is really tough for me. Ive tried three different slow solos that I’ve done in the past but can’t get them to fit. I can’t believe I’m even saying this but the track is too slow. I can’t hear or feel the rhythm in my head. I cant play fast enough…if that makes sense. On top of that, I’ve been working with my new acoustic which makes it even more difficult for me.

Hi Ivan , here’s a little tip that will help you with this slow rhythm, first things first put the guitar down you don’t need it yet . You have to familiarise yourself with the time signature and the only way to do that is count it out loud until it’s embedded in your head it’s in 12/8 time so it’s counted in triplets .
1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a
Four beats to the bar with 12 notes per bar with a accent on the first note of every beat .
If you turn on the jam track there is a four count before it starts the symbol donates the third note in each beat
When you get the count going (and you will) then pick up the guitar and things will start to happen , yes it is a slow tempo but is perfectly doable but the timing is key you have to nail that count before attempting anything else . Be patient with it and it’ll reward you , hope this helps . Cheers martin -

Ivan try using the videos especially think it might be easier to use the “slow walk through” just rewind and go it super slow..I think you can even see Brian’s finger positions and get the mechanics first.. memorize the basic box shape scale patterns..
this latest 344 makes it even more easy because it’s basically like he explains.. the notes are the notes from the chords
practice holding the full chord identify the 6ths also the triads for each chord.. the progression is easy just like 12 bar but it’s slightly a different timing ..yes just tap the foot along with voicing tri-pol-lets … it’s like yeah man are you hip can you dig it snap the fingers .. ,,
anyway, it eventually clicks .. timing takes time to learn.. so it’s always going to be a personal challenge for all of us .. some learn it faster because we trained our ear after years of listening.. sometimes it is mechanical.. like even if you have it in the head , it might be a struggle with the fingers… that’s why sometimes the videos are the easiest option ..focus on doing whatever Brian .. try slowing the speed even more doing in the slowest walk through settings until it is clean enough to raise the speed.. it will click once you figure it out

Thanks man. I normally have good timing. I think the problem with this track is I need to play pretty fast licks or phrases and I’m not a fast player. I even sped up the track to see if that works and still struggling. Oh well, I have been studying ep344 and you’re right lot of great take always in this one.

Many times I will just challenge myself a crash through the coarse/lesson.. just picking the notes not putting much emphasis is the timing,, just because i like to get a sense of the scale shapes /pattern /box pentatonic =5 note scales ,, or natural 7 note scales.. kind of scales like minor Dorian/phrygian/aeolian or a major Ionian/lydian/Mixolydian .. keep in mind major chord major scales and for minor chords use the minor scalestiming is basically the feel phrasing them notes in smaller shapes within the full shape scales,, the best way to get the timing is simple going it slow but understanding and visualizing the notes and shapes really helps with getting the timing too.
i think proper finger placement is very important too , so be sure to watch which fingers Brian is using,, sometimes this can make a difference too.. so far I’m practicing these lessons 327 206 175 58 288 227.. each time I revisit these when i log in , I’ll run through them each at least a couple times.. by practicing them all,,it helps even more cause these are all pretty much the same key /blues scales

Practicing last night and again tonight ,, ep 327 reminds me of the late Rory Gallagher
Brian’s feel definitely reminds me of Rory Gallagher ..anyway, I like getting this as tight as possible… before I take on another number..this is easy to follow but to get it tight requires the right touch.
If anything refer back to the instructional video but I’m confident with a few hrs a day following along with the soundslice ,,this isn’t too difficult..enjoy!
