Humbuckers vs P90’s???
Both sound great but P90s have a heart and soul all of their own. Many of songs in early jazz and blues were recorded using the P90. Pete Townsend, Leslie West and Frank Marino all have recorded songs that most us would be familiar with
One of the downfalls of the early p90s was that they were bit noisy but that led to the development of the humbucker. Engineers realized that by having 2 coils wired opposite of each other, the noise would be canceled or should we say that it would buck against the AC hum that the p90 picked up
I have a Gibson Blueshawk which has what Gibson called Blues 90s, according to their marketing ploys, were supposed to be an enhanced version of the original. They sound different than the single coil developed by Leo Fender. They can scream the blues when needed or they can be sweet as sugar if needed.
One of the nicest sounding guitars that I’ve ever played was a Gibson SG equipped with p90s, I don’t remember the model number but it sounded great.
Here a couple of demo videos from our friend in Germany. 2 different guitars, 2 different styles of music using p90s
