I have only played acoustic guitar but am intrigued about buying an electric guitar to play the blues. I want to spend $1,000 or less for the guitar and maybe get a semi hollow. Right now I have a Collings 01MH and a Taylor 814. I finger pick styles like Doc Watson and Mississippi John Hurt tunes. I also like playing songs that are strummers like Melissa, Wish You Were Here, Eagles, the Dead…..
I have a Fender Acoustasonic 90. Can I use this amp? Please only short concise replies even though this question could lead to lengthly replies! Don’t want to over complicate it!

“I have a Fender Acoustasonic 90. Can I use this amp?”
Yes
The amp should work fine on clean settings it should also work ok with distortion pedals, for general use I’d buy a compressor pedal you’ll get to add some sustain and you can use it to adjust the volume it lets you get sustain without the distortion add reverb for a smooth bluesy sound.
Compressors vary a TC Hyper Gravity Mini is 60 the Keeley is a good mid purchase at 120 with the Origin Effects being the best but are priced 200 – 260ishGuitars under 1000 there are many I’d look at the PRS semi SE 1st they look good are well made and sound good for the prices
Another option is the Fender Telecaster Thinline Made in Mexico are 7/800 and you may pick up a US 2nd hand one for round the 1000 mark.
My prices are UK US could be slightly cheaper for somethings.
Ask if you want any more info all my electric guitars are semi hollow

Lots of choice with $1000 budget, fender, Gibson, prs and many more sell guitars in all guises for that budget.
Acustelectic, semi acoustic or full fat electric guitars, your acoustasonic amp I don’t know much about but as I’m led to believe acoustic and electric guitar amps do different jobs..
Whichever guitar you buy the guitar will pick you and not the other way around...Billy..

You can’t go wrong with a Washburn HB-35. Excellent workmanship and sounds great – Washburn has made this model for over 20 years and its one of their best sellers
$649 includes hardshell case.

G&l bluesboy tribute ASAT classic is a nice guitar lots of good reviews on YouTube, I bought my bluesboy on the back of Samuel Lees review, more recently Jonathan Koh as reviewed one and he couldn’t let it go he ended up keeping it, pair one up with a nice Yamaha THR amp and you’ll be all set up.

Whilst the hollow body is a great guitar you might like to consider the new Fender Meteora which Brian uses in his lesson 337 and clearly loves and boy does he get a great sound out of it. I think it is a very fine blues guitar new at just about $1000 US. Also wherever you are check out the local auction sites for musical instruments if you know how to asses a guitar you may well find a bargain. I live in the UK and Gardiner Houlgate https://www.gardinerhoulgate.co.uk/departments/6/Guitars have Quaterly auctions here you can browse their recent sales to get an Idea of English prices. But bear in mind that here they are plus approx 25% buyers premium. Currently we still have EU’s wretched VAT sales tax at 20%.
I have an old Stratocaster which is the most excellent guitar and a Gibson ES-347 which is a truly great hollow body but both violate you price point as originals but copies can be found such as Ibanez etc. Good Luck

Which color Bluesboy did you get? I like the clear orange/maple fingerboard model. I had a Classic ASAT for a while but my Comanche and S500 can get pretty convincing Tele tones.
This is the ASAT that I’ve got my eyes set on but with the price, it will be a while before I bring it home.

go to guitar store and play a bunch of guitars and if they’ve got your Fender Acoustasonic 90 amp then play them all through that.
One of the guitars will feel wonderful in your hands and say “take me home” and that’s your guitar.
You’re going to spend hundreds and maybe thousands of hours with this new guitar in your hands so you’ve got to love the feel as well as the sound.
And $1000 should buy you a quality axe. -

This is the one I got Keith
I really like the G&L Bluesboy the humbucker in the neck position is a perfect foil for the bridge you can get a lot out of them, I also prefer the G&L bridge with the individual saddles over the Fender
Nice looking Guitar too

Very sharp guitar and you have it paired up with a Blackstar amp – great rig.
Blackstar, like G&L, gives a lot of bang for the buck

Go to a guitar store, buy a whole bunch of guitars. You can’t take all that money with you.

Hi all,
I know this is an old post but I may be able to fill in some blanks for you. I purchased an acoustasonic tele in January 2019. My first impression was positive. Good sound and light weight and I for one actually like the look of it. I have a natural colored model. After playing it for a while I drifted away from it. I am more of an electric player but I do have some great acoustics. The heavier strings were a little tiring after a while. Anyway, about 3 months ago I put a set of strings on it that are the same gauge as used on the the Taylor T5z. Now I play the Fender quite a bit. No more fatigue! Now for sound, I also own a beautiful custom Taylor T5z and a Godin thin neck Multiac. I a/b tested all three into a Quilter Micro Pro amp that does a great job on acoustic sounds along with killer electric tones. The acoustasonic blew the Taylor and Godin away on the acoustic sounds. Not only that, the guitar really captures the acoustic sounds it goes after. I did and a/b test with my Taylor 814ce and my Martin D28 and my Collings 002H. The Fender did very well against all of them. If you want a guitar with a lot of GREAT acoustic sounds then this is your guitar. If you want a guitar to give you the Tele spank you always hear, then this will fall a little short. It’s not bad on the electric settings, but it is not great. Actually the Taylor T5z has a stronger electric profile. Also if you want a guitar to play unplugged while your spouse watches TV you can do that. It is quiet unplugged and light as a feather. Hope that is helpful.
