Hi everyone – just signed up for the Premium Membership after being totally blown away be the quality of the teaching and the vast amount of learning resources offered in Active Melody. I started playing guitar about 5 years ago and although I haven’t progressed as far as being able to jam with others, I am enjoying playing and learning so much that I often get up at 3 am and play for a couple of hours then go back to bed! Weird, I know, but I’m retired …
Looking forward to spending time in this community.

Welcome Mick, that’s a great place to be, being able to make your own hours. If you stick with Brian’s lessons, you’ll see good progress.

Welcome to AM Mick. This is a great place to soak up some guitar knowledge. I used to get up at 3 am but then I retired. Vacationed in your beautiful city this past summer.

I’ve been around AM for a bit now.
I’m sure you won’t regret being a subscriber.

Hey … if you’re in Vancouver:
You might be interested in the Blues Jam (acoustic) at the ANZA club (8th and Ontario) on the first and last Tuesday of each month. Comin’ up on Dec. 4, but not gonna’ happen on Christmas Day/New Years Day. Mostly retired guys, some really good, mostly intermediates, usually ’bout 15-20 really regulars and a selection of people who attend less regularly, welcoming guys, no pressure, lotsa’ laughs, and you can buy a beer. Five bucks, usually runs 7:30 to short of midnite.
Been goin’ on for five or six years. Other instruments welcome, but usually it’s (stand-up) bass, guitars, a few dobro’s, mandolin. Music runs from acoustic blue classics to R/B, soul, sometimes old rock, rockabilly, alt. styles., mostly based on 12 bar blues. If you can lead a song, or sing, great, if not it’s okay.
Well worth checkin’ out.

What’s ANZA? Does it have to do with Australia – New Zealand, like ANZAC?

Yeah, but I don’t know the history or anything about the club.

Thanks for the info Lauch. Just got back from Toronto so I won’t make it to ANZA tomorrow. Hope to get down there early in the New Year. I’ll look out for you.
Is it okay to show up without an instrument the first time?

Welcome to AM, if you put in the effort then you’re not going to regret joining.
Living in Vancouver you’re not far from probably the best guitar kit maker in the world, well in my opinion. I bought a kit from Precisionguitarkit.com a few years ago and it’s great quality and not at all difficult to do. Everyone should have a go at building their own guitar at some time. The only problem with the kit is that living in Europe I was faced with an eye-watering import tax bill!!! One that I was not expecting.
Post something soon Mick.

Thanks for that info Martyn – I have taken a few luthier courses and would love to build my own guitar! Good to know there is a highly-rated local company selling guitar kits. I will definitely check out Precisionguitarkit.com.

Welcome. I have been enjoying AM for 2 years and still love it. I am over the strait in Nanoose Bay. Lots to learn here and check out the monthly challenges. A great way to start playing in public and gain confidence.
