Hello all you AM guitar pickers.
HAS THIS HAPPENED TO YOU YET?
So I’ve been studying guitar now for 8 years. Private lessons for 6. I practice 3 or 4 hours a day most the time with at least a third of it spent on the theory end. I’ve struggled immensely over the years at trying to understand the theory being taught me with only bits and pieces coming in at a time to my understanding. Yep, just bit by bit, piece by piece. Being so frustrated at times thinking it’s simply too tuff.
See, conceptually music is, till you get enough of these little epiphanies of understanding, tuff as hell for most. Easier for some.
But my point is that until you reach a certain level of understanding, it can all seem “Greek to me” as I’ve been told by non-music people when I try to explain the simplest thing to them.
So what I’m saying is this: While I’ll never stop trying to lean the theory. I’m beginning to understand the Theory behind the music. Things are coming to me like daily almost, and it’s because of things I’ve learned before and were tucked away in my subconscious but couldn’t conceptualize it or put it together until now.
In I would say just the last several months, things seem to be coming together for me in that area. Things taught years ago are now fitting together nicely, like a puzzle piece with new things I’m learning.
In closing I will say, I remember my teachers saying things like….”all of a sudden a light will go off and you will begin to understand all this stuff”. Well it’s happening now for me, so for those of you just beginning to get your head around theory (if that’s your bag) be diligent, be relentless and practice much and it will come to you, bit by bit and piece by piece until all of a sudden it all comes flooding in. Also, Brian is a big part of why this is happening to me, so thanks Brian!
By the way, It happens this same way with playing your instrument to, only on a physical level. Remember how tough the F chord used to be?
Merry Christmas
